Re: Successfully soft close doors retrofit

Thanks for the additional info. Is the electrical work that is required simply tapping in to the existing harness to provide power to the latch? A hot wire and a ground to the latch are all that are required?

Re: Successfully soft close doors retrofit

So you used latches from a 7 series, huh? In addition to buying the latches, what did you have to do? Were they a direct bolt-in replacement or did you have to do any modifications to the door? Are they self contained (i.e., just install them and they work) or do you have to program/code the car?

Re: Successfully soft close doors retrofit

How would this modification prevent a door from being slammed shut by a person who didn't know to carefully close the door so that the soft-close mechanism could complete the close? It doesn't. I have driven BMW's with soft close doors and you can still slam them. It's just that you no longer have ...

Re: Error 21F0D1

Just curious: Have you tried clearing the code in the chance that it was a one-time fluke occurrence?

Re: Driving on Gas only.. Can I drive 200 miles

I know I'm answering a question you didn't ask, but are you familiar with the app ABRP ("A Better Route Planner")? If you're driving a first or second gen i3 with the smallest 60Ah or the middle 94Ah battery, you can do this drive all-electric with one charging stop of less than 15 minutes Hmmm... ...

Re: Driving on Gas only.. Can I drive 200 miles

I don't remember what year BMW started allowing use of the full 2.4 gallons in the tank (2017?) but if yours is the earlier model with the 60 ah battery you should definitely code the car to allow full use of the tank. It's only a half gallon difference but that can be a big deal on a road trip. Onc...

Re: Driving on Gas only.. Can I drive 200 miles

I bought my 2014 i3/REX 850 miles away and drove it home at 70-75 mph all the way. Stopped every 60 miles or so to splash in some gas and hit the road again. The previous owner had already coded the car to allow me to fire up the REX (Hold State of Charge) at 75% of battery and also to allow use of ...

Re: I Officially Hate Deer

I don't know what they would have given me if they had totalled it, but I'm assuming it would be fair market value, probably determined by KBB. In my case I definitely preferred having the car repaired because there was no structural damage that could possibly have changed the way the car drives or ...

I buy my tires from www.tirerack.com. They will want to sell you 4, but if you use the website it will allow you to order just 2.

Re: I Officially Hate Deer

Wrapping up this thread. After nearly 7 weeks in the body shop I finally have my i3 back. The bill was a staggering $13,155 but fortunately covered by my insurance. I'm pretty sure that if they had known it was going to be this expensive they would have totalled it, but it just kept creeping up and ...
