2015 i3 Rex Maintenance after plan expired

OK so my maintenance plan is expiring this July and I am wondering if the i3 can be maintained at an independent place because the dealer is very expensive.
Beside oil changes etc what do I need the dealer for? Will getting it serviced elsewhere void my CPO warranty?
 
As I understand it, there's a federal regulation (law?) that says something like this:
'A manufacturer cannot void your warranty because of work done outside of its network unless that work is directly the cause of subsequent failures'.
IOW, if the work is done 'properly', you can do it anywhere, including by yourself (but documentation may be required to prove it was done, and with what).
