It's time for me to leave the forum. We have sold the i3 and gone back to a 1.0 petrol driven town car in order to remove the 'cost to repair' anxiety issues we had during ownership of the i3 after the end of the manufacturers warranty. Best of luck to you Mick. Returning to a 1.0 litre will be hard to swallow. You're probably right though. Owning a BMW electric vehicle outside warranty is like handing out blank cheques. I just serviced my wife's 15 plate i3 REx at 50k miles. Starting to show its age. I do what I can, but parts are expensive and the technology is likely to be superseded.
 
EV's are inherently just more reliable than gas engines.
Modern gas engines also use a lot of electronics, but have mechanical failures too

the issue is with the availability of service and 3rd part parts and service....
