Just picked up an i3 REx and loving it so far. The tires are all 2/32 on the insides, 4/32 on the outsides.

Is this considered normal for the car or does it need a better alignment?

Unfortunately, when new, the Bridgestone tires standard on i3's have shallower tread on the inside edge compared with the outside edge. I didn't measure the tread depth when our tires were new, but since 6k miles, the inside tread has been 2/32" shallower than the outside tread and the difference hasn't increased, so your wear pattern seems normal to me.

Our pair of i3 were eating the inside edge of the tires since we go them (one had 3K miles when we bought it - so assumed alignment was ok)....boy were we wrong - got an alignment since getting tires anyway (was additional $75) - the one wheel that was the biggest offender was way out of spec....we'll see in 10-15k miles if it made a huge difference or not....scheduling the other i3 for alignment when we get the chance....
