On Bimmerpost, similar problem posted, replacing 12 volt battery apparently fixed the issue.

Tue the local shop is calling BMW NJ HQ support..I'm hoping they test the 12v system before that call. Thanks Mark
 
update

bmw shop replaced or updated software and headunit but still radom idrive reboots..apparently if theres a system event such as reboot it *should generate an error code but this last time the tech said he didn't find a code? btw..they claim any 12v issues would show up in diag report. Q, what tests should be suggested next?
