Got a loaner i3 for a few days and I unfortunately discovered that the chargers fitted to my building have a captive five-pin J1772 cable.

Is there an adapter available (or even possible) that would allow me to use these with the i3's type 2 port?

I don't believe you can buy one off the shelf. However, I don't see why you couldn't use a J1772 socket with a cable to a type-2 plug. Not cheap, though. Depending on where you live, I could offer information about a company that could advise you.

At least the signaling protocol is identical between the two plugs! As a result, it's just a dumb cable/plug conversion thing. Probably cost you at least 100BP to cobble one up. I do think I saw one company that made one, but that was a long time ago, and I may not remember correctly.
