how do i know if i have a 7,4kw onboard charger on my i3.

model 2/ 2017 94ah. It supposed to have at least a 7.4kw on board charger this model.

I don't have a DC option. my car has only a 1 phase type 2 connector.

I use a Type 2 32A 3 phase cable i recently bought. But i tried at 3 different 22kw public chargers and it only charges at 3kw

In my BMW app it writes 16A limitation when it charges. I don't know if is some type of restriction.

Finally, it’s set to charge at maximum capacity at settings in the menu.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you

Your i3 appears not to have the second on-board 3.7 kW charger which would be option "S4U8A Rapid Charging Alternating Current" in a U.S. i3. However, maybe the second charger would be included in a different option for a European i3, so hopefully a European i3 owner will clarify.

If I don't have the second onboard charger, is possible to add one from BMW? 3kw is very slow.
Anything's possible with enough money :D You need at least a KLE module (convenience charging electronics) which might be available used (it's quite expensive new). Hopefully, someone more familiar with the charging electronics will comment.

Hi guys,

You mention "S4U8A Rapid Charging Alternating Current".

How do you figure out what options does a BMW i3 have?

Maybe using an OBD and some app? If so, any recommendations in that regard?

Very newbie as you can see LOL.

Thanks,

Plug your VIN into mdecoder.com for the list of options your vehicle was built with.

It will be listed towards the bottom of the first big section, "Comfort and Interior" – S4U8
