Exchange front bumper i3 for a i3s model? Lower part.

Good morning all!

Here a happy Bmw i3 model 2019 driver. I love the car and the handling a lot.
I wanted the i3 version iso the i3s model due to range. During nice days I can make a 270-300 km range, what I love.
But...
I like the front bumper of the i3s more.
After checking the details it looks ,you would be able to replace the lower part of the front bumper ( the black part.) without replacing the upper part of the front bumper. This is actually the only difference at the front between the i3 and i3s.
Does anyone knows if this is possible? It looks very similar as part, but....you never know
I’m very curious if anyone did this and if it is easily done.

You are right that the lower bumper part (referred to as bumper trim front in the parts list) seems to be the only difference. If you go through the parts list:

it looks like that trim (item #2) and the small pieces that attach to it are specific to i3s, the rest are also in the regular i3 - you can click on each part # and then expand the car models to see in which models this part goes. I checked the bumper and the air intake insert (#1 & #9), and they are the same for i3 & i3s, which would mean that the attachment tabs for the bumper trim front should be at identical locations and type to be able to plug into the same bumper. So, this should be a simple replacement.

A rough pricing at my local dealer with the applicable discounts gives about $400 for all pieces.

I actually had the same idea. There is a little difference that I found in item Nr. 2. On the far right , vertical edge, there are 3 little pins on the i3s, with a little gap between the upper and the lower 2. If you look at the i3, then there is a pin at that point. But the bumper of the i3s looks even more simple.
I couldn’t find any other difference.
Now is the question, do you need special tools, or is it a simple connection system.
I hope the dealer can help me answering this.

These are supposed to be for the 120 i3s but the pictures are showing the old bumper. However, I wouldn't imagine that the new one would have very different tabs that would require a special tool.

Thanks for your answer again. It would be relaxed to have the updated pictures to see how to remove and connect the new bumper. Do you have any experience with removing the sensors out of the bumper. I’ve been reading somewhere it is important to keep them connected to avoid a fault message in the system after reassembling everything. Does someone has experience in this. Is it easy to remove the parking sensors without any issues?

TO be on the safe side, you want to probably have two people to remove the bumper cover. If you break the tabs or slots, you'll need a new bumper, so someone to hold it while you futz with releasing the tabs is a good idea.

It's easier to figure out what needs to be done once you have the new part in hand.
