I would love to have this bike. Is it completely dead?

I asked the dealer when I placed my order last week, and all he could tell me is that it is not in the system for ordering.

Tom, could you check on this with your contacts? It would be an ideal way for my wife to get around campus.

too bad if it is completely dead.
I did not realize it was electric, but it would just be even cooler.
Having a bike when you sometimes have to park a bit away from one's distination, to charge, would be super smart. Hope it comes

I talked to a product manager about this at one of the car shows last year. He said they really did look into it, but it's not going to happen. The biggest issue was service and maintenance. He said the dealerships won't accept servicing electric bicycles so they would have to partner with local bike shops for service and parts, etc and they it just wouldn't be feasible. Sorry.

I hope Tom doesn't gavel me down for moving slightly off topic here, but if you want a folding electric bike to complete your i3 package, there are plenty of them out there. Most look like regular folding bikes with an electric motor added, but here's one that takes a "start from the ground up" approach just as BMW has done with the i3:

I guarantee you that if you stopped some place in your i3 and then pulled one of these out of the back you would be surrounded by inquisitive passersby asking you about both of your amazing vehicles. Maybe you could even charge for test drives to help recoup the expense of buying the two of them :)

Great idea, but unfortunately the concept was stolen from Mr. Garrison (of South Park Fame) who invented the "It":

One of my all time favorites. Remember also the whole episode about the smugness of prius drivers? One clip:

On a more serious note, the integration of the BMW i-Pedelec with the i3 meant that once racked, both the bike(s) and the car would charge fully when plugged in, creating an easy way to get around with fewer recharging steps to monitor, and therefore a higher likelihood of being used. What I like best about BMW's focus on environmentally responsible mobility is that they look beyond our narrow focus on battery powered electric cars and are trying like hell to open our minds to better options for getting us all where we need to go in the most efficient and environmentally responsible manner possible. I'm sad to see them drop this for now, but fully understand the practicalities as explained by Tom. Hopefully BMW Motorrad USA will finally start selling the Concept E (http://www.bmwmotorcycles.com/us/en...om/us/en/urban_mobility/k18/k18_overview.html) here in the states, which would present one less obstacle to a concept like the i-Pedelec, as they would already be selling and supporting a two wheel electric vehicle.

Well let's take this discussion into the present! Here are some pictures of my (OK, not-electric!) folding bike and i3.

Big advantage of this is that this bike fits in the i3 trunk, is completely out of sight and the back seats can be used normally!

And I might add that there is no fancy price tag either: €270,-- will do the trick. :)

I checked out the gibike. Nice idea. Unfortunately, the fold is not competitive compared to a Brompton. Also, the photo with the seat on the floor makes me worry that the seat would be worn in no time. Gocycle does better and is electric.
