Does anyone know if there is a processure on how to test the output of the REX without taking it to the dealership?

You can use ISTA to view the electrical output of the generator. It'll also show you RPM and the like. You'll have to take the car for a test drive with REx running to get accurate results.

I am curious what the output of the rex generator is. AC? DC? Does it match the voltage of the battery or is it converted somewhere else?

On many of the REx models (newer ones may be larger), the engine is a 34-Hp device. Being overly simplistic that all of that Hp is converted to power, 34-Hp = 25.35Kw. Now, if you're lucky, the conversion efficiency is in the order of 95% or about 24Kw. But, the REx doesn't always run at maximum, especially when first warming up or under light loads.
