Hi I'm trying to get the android app to connect to the car (REx) but can't find any instructions anywhere. Can anyone help?

If its he app that asks for a username and password to log in then you have to get the dealer to register the car for you, if it's not this then I don't know.

As yet I haven't got mine working as I haven't got a password from BMW yet and can't get past the log in screen!!

Hi, the activation procedure is quite different in the US and in Europe.

For Europe, you can check this home-made wiki page : https://docs.google.com/a/garzon.me/document/d/19UNRVt-8ubISZBT9xK9pnxKArmuwSCWyYU57OWdVBjo/edit?pli=1
If you are in the US, there are plenty of forum members that can help you out.

Since this is an international forum, you may want to state where you come from in your member's profile; this will surely be handy when trying to help you since quite a few features are country/market dependent.
Cheers

Edit : oupss, sorry, it seems that you just updated your country. The google doc should be useful. Get back to the pack if needed.

I registered with bimmer assist in the US through the dealership and got email and login straight from an assist specialist but I can't get past the login screen on either iPad or android (Nexus 5). Help? I have a rex.

Just to update my post, it took a few days from registering to receiving a sms message with my user name and then another with the password.

I've been using the app for about three weeks now but the last two days it hasn't updated and won't connect/sync. Does anyone know how to force a sync?

I don't think you can 'force a sync', you just have to sit it out and it's usually back within a couple of days. I've had it drop out a few times although it does seem to be getting better recently.

Thanks Plug, that probably explains the issue...

I've found that if you close the app entirely, then reopen it (rather than the 'sleep' mode of Android - at least that's the way I think it works), it will usually reconnect with the vehicle. If, when you open the app, it does not ask for your pin, it's probably not really talking to the car at that point, and the data is old.

Still not working for me. Numerous uninstall of the app and re-installed it. Called the BMW customer services who seemed actually pretty useless. They wanted me to take pictures and email them and then asked to uninstall the app from my computer, eh! "There's no app mate it's a Web page..."

It's more annoying than anything as in the current weather we're having it was useful to activate the climate control and check the soc.

Mine has also not been working at all with the iRemote app for the past four days or so. I am also based in the UK. I contacted BMW and they confirmed that there is some issue with their servers preventing it from working.

I have given up on it for the moment and have learned how to set up preconditioning from the iDrive. However, the app was very useful for this and also for monitoring the state of changing.

One thing I have noticed (I have a REX), from when it went offline once before, is that when the service resumes, the miles you travelled when it was offline are never recorded in the total electric miles. If I used the recorded information to calculate my REX miles by subtracting the total electric miles in the iRemote app from the odo in the car I get over 500 miles. However I know for a fact that the car has done only 70 miles on REX since I have had it. I have only ever filled it up once with about 7 litres of petrol(gas).

The infrastructure differs somewhat by country, so that may be an issue. It worked first time for me when I loaded the app, and has continued to for about a month now of ownership.

Do you have good signal strength both on the phone and at the vehicle? It's not obvious on the vehicle if it does, but try using your phone near the vehicle - if you phone has trouble with the network, your vehicle probably does as well.

Thanks for the reply.
I can not see it as a network problem as the car will show me weather updates and BMW apps work fine too. I can even send map routes to the car along with concierge services.
What I cannot do is access the status of the car that shows SOC/Electric Range/Rex Range/ Precondition/ Result of last trip etc... The last update on the app which I have also installed on an iphone as well as android, un installed then re installed only shows the last update which was 21st July.

Getting irritating now!!!

Having had no iRemote access to my i3 for over a week now and having today received confirmation from BMW that all is well with my account on their server I was facing the prospect of another warranty visit to the BMW service centre. However, this evening I thought that I would try fiddling with some of the iDrive settings to see if I could reset the errant connection between my i3 and the BMW server. I disabled the GPS Tracking setting in the iDrive menu and now the iRemote app on my phone can see the i3 again :)

I have left the GPS Tracking setting off for now but I assume that if I turn this on again then the iRemote connection will still hopefully keep working as it did before last week. So it seems that, for me in any case, toggling the GPS Tracking setting somehow refreshes the connection between the i3 and the BMW server.

Thanks James, I tried the GPS thing already but to no avail!!

I have been in contact with my dealer and BMW who have both confirmed that all is well on their server, it really is frustrating when you know something is wrong, plain as day, yet all they say to me is "computer says its ok" so it must be.....!!!

I think I will now escalate this and ask for a warranty claim/issue, see where it goes from there. It's a bit like if the air con stops working, not a problem with driving the car yet it still needs to be fixed.

Have you tried hitting "Delete all Connections" from the website, that should force all your devices to re-sync?

Thats a good one jackt.

I have now deleted all connections, changed passwords and account names, tried it on an iPhone and android, GPS on and Off.

Sadly still no sync.

Anyone know where the sim card would be located as I'm thinking of pulling it out and trying to re set this from the car end?

Update!!!

Success......!!!!! :D

After removing the rear seat I found lots of electronic things under it. So I unplugged them all (carefully) and then plugged them all back in again.

5 mins later the app is now fully synced.

I knew it needed a reset somewhere in the car and this seems to have done it. I have just driven it around the block and everything is 100% working.

I'm not sure what the items are under the seat but they look like a HDD back end of the radio, a couple of GPS antennas, a fan and some other bits and bobs. It also looks like some connectors are blank and maybe these are for additional items I haven't specced on my car. If any one else with a knowledge of these things wants to have a look then I'd love to know whats what.

Cheers
Mark.
