Alloy Wheel Corrosion

Fri May 25, 2018 1:13 pm

Anyone noticed a problem with corrosion on the i3 wheels? I seem to have a particular problem around the centre hub on both my back wheels as though something is causing it in this location.

If the corrosion is the color of rust, the wheels themselves probably aren't corroding but the steel hub assembly to which the wheels connect is likely rusting. Some i3 owners have experienced their wheels adhering to the hubs with a layer of rust coating the hubs. This seems to be surface rust only that isn't causing significant damage.

My one front looks like that but the rears look like the surface coating has been penetrated and there’s a sort of cloudy white corrosion spreading from the inside outwards. Can’t put a photo up currently but will do soon.

I'll follow up with a photo as promised but to confirm BMW have agreed two new rear wheels to be fitted on Tuesday under warranty
