Ever since BMW CEO Harold Krueger said in 2016 the i3 would get a longer range last month, the media has been speculating what exactly that means. Recently some "insiders' have claimed the additional range would come from BMW replacing the i3's current 60 Ah cells with Samsung's new 94 Ah cells. I've offered some thoughts on what that might mean if true, in the post below:

In response to the article below, my local BMW i agent confirmed that in the UK full details of an updated battery on the i3 would be available at the end of this year

But when will the upgraded i3 be available?

The battery update is supposed to be in the 2017 i3, which begins production in July. The 2016 model year i3 has a short production cycle, and ends in June. The speculation is so that BMW can bring the 2017 i3 with the longer range to market a little earlier than most model years.
