I recall back in 2015, BMW announced thy would offer CarPlay and the Android alternative across the range in 2016-7. Did this happen? I've not seen anything to indicate this is an option, or as a firmware update. Anyone know?

No, it has not happened for the i3 I was promised it would be available in January 2017 when I bought my i3 Rex in November. Its now March 2017, BMW still shuffle their feet and say "they do not know" when asked. I find "I don't know" a stock answer from BMW when it comes to the i3!

If you're talking to a dealer, the 'I don't know' response is probably accurate, and possibly true for the experts as well! Not that I agree, but BMW doesn't typically tell the dealers things until it is a done deal.

Sadly The "I do not know" response is a the only thing I get from BWM when ever I seek advice on any subject where they have failed. This is from sales, through to support, including the i3 specialists. Try to take it higher.... silence. Great car, in fact brilliant, lousy company ethos when it comes to the i3. It appears to me they would rather sell v8's that I3's.

At this point all new BMWs have a CarPlay option except the i3. It's really bizarre considering the i3 is all about futuristic tech!

We got our i3 two weeks ago and are very disappointed that Apple CarPlay is nowhere to be found.
We thought we were getting a cutting edge technology vehicle and that CarPlay would of course be included in the most expensive car we ever bought. The lack of it would have been excusable for the 2014 model, but in 2017?
Come on BMW, wake up!

I have CarPlay on my 2016 e-Golf, and IMO, it's quite overrated, especially if you're on an iPhone. All I really use it for is navigating and playing podcasts, which the i3 does just fine. And I'd take the tech package's navigation over Apple Maps any day.

When I ordered my car (Nov. 2017) in Sydney, the Apple CarPlay option was $623 inc GST tax. I decided that was poor value and declined. The salesman said he didn’t blame me, ‘cos you can load it yourself for free!
If it can be done, I will and report back to the forum.

Car play is $500 in NZ including GST. it shouldn't be a cost option as it should be included in all new BMW's as standard, but in saying that I would pay for the option in my next BMW purchase after using Apple Car Play.

You must have the newest version of iDrive to add on CarPlay. I believe that I drive version only comes on ‘18 and newer model years.

BTW I love CarPlay and the $300 option was a steal. I never use BMWs system anymore. CarPlays on all the time.
