Hey guys, long time lurker and am looking to get some info that i haven't seen being discussed at length. I'm coming from a 500e and have always been following the i3 as my next car and as luck would have it, that time might be coming sooner than later. I'm going to start a new job that will extend my current commute by an extra 10-15mi and this is cutting pretty close into my round trip distance in the 500e.

I've been looking for 2017 BEV for the 33kw battery (not interested in REX for obvious reasons) and from what car gurus/autotrader/etc are listing the 2017 as having 60Ah but of course looking up every 2017 VINs online it's showing as "i3 94 (USA)". So my question is, are all 2017 BEV comes with the updated 94Ah/33kw battery and if so, why are dealerships listing them as having 60ah/22kw? TIA

I believe the 94ah battery was an option in 2017. The only 2017s that definitely have the 94ah battery are the 2017 REX.

I'd go by whatever the VIN decoder is telling you, that's how I found the exact one I wanted. Far too many dealers do not list the option list correctly.

The 2017 U.S. base model has a 60 Ah battery pack. However, it doesn't seem like many were sold. It's almost as if BMW had a few 60 Ah battery packs left over from 2016, so they installed them in the lowest cost base model.

As suggested, use a VIN decoding site to determine the exact nature of a 2017 i3.

That's the thing, I've looked at roughly 20 '17 BEVs and VIN decoder show "i3 94 (USA)" on every single one. To show that the VIN decoder isn't busted, I've looked up the VIN for 2016s and of course every single one just shows "i3 (USA)" without the "94". I want to believe that there's no 60Ah currently being sold and if they were, they'd probably been upgraded to the 94Ah.

I don't see BMW doing a battery swap unless the thing failed...the initial 2017 MY vehicles built, and I don't know how many made it to the USA, had the smaller battery pack.

I have the same question. Every 2017 vin that i have checked shows i3 94 even though it is being advertised as a 60ah. How would one find out exactly which battey it has? I wonder if it would be on Mulroney window sticker.

There is a used 17 model that has the same but the decoder states it as 94. This is strange and a concern. Is there anyway to determine who has the correct info other than a dealership?
