I received my new Dashmat yesterday for the i3. Okay, good news and bad news. I ordered the "suede" look in "smoke". It looks good, to me anyhow. However I don't think someone did their homework though. The mat goes all around the dash area including the bottom valley in the middle below the Nav screen and over the Glove Box. And so there is the problem - if you have something that is fastened down over the GB, then how do you open the GB? Fail! So, if you bought an upper model with that nice wood, then you'd be covering it up too! Fail! I have a base model so covering up Plastic is cool with me. However of course I want to open my %#*^ GB! So what you can do if you have one of these on order and Dashmat doesn't fix the problem is you can tuck the GB flap all the way into the GB and close it. That doesn't look too bad. If you didn't fasten down the GB flap then it will just go up and you'd have to place it back. The left side finger doesn't fit the little left side valley too well but doesn't bother me.

You also get a separate piece to cover the sweeping piece that comes out from the right side. It is cut in 2 places to allow the airbag to come out. I personally don't care for it, but if my car was going to see hot sun everyday I'd probably use it.

As far as glare reduction I don't know yet because the sun has taken a nose dive here this week. If I can get into a position to get the sun back and the glare issue, I'll try to get pictures of both.

I'm going to try to post some pictures here. Never done it so it could be a fail! moment. The pictures will be stock dash, then Dashmat left side, Dashmat right side, Dashmat GB fail, GB flap tucked and lid closed, Left side finger, and sweeping piece cover piece. If I fail at posting links forgive me!

You have done us all a great service. It is surprising just how shabby a job Dashmat did on this car...... I would not have believed it if I hadn't seen it.

Thank you for the dash-mat review. Looks like they need to think a bit harder. The idea is neat and it looks tidy where it fits well.

PS... the pics work fine.

Some have reported glare off of the large flat surface of the dash, others don't like the pressed fiber look. I think Alcantara would be perfect myself and look more in keeping with a $50k car.

Okay just wanted to follow up. I just got off the phone with a gal at Dashmat. They want me to send detailed report of the problem and pictures so at least that's a step in the right direction.

I will report back all conversations regarding this and see what they do.

SO, I explained (to Dashmat) the obvious that you can't open the $%&* GB with an anchored down Dashmat over it. But I mentioned too, that if you have a base model with just the plastic GB and valley under the Nav screen, that a Dashmat in the valley would be great at least I think so. Just make the GB a separate attachable piece. HOWEVER, if you have an upper model with the nice wood, then the Dashmat should NOT cover the valley. It should end at the top of the valley.

Maybe there should be 2 separate models, one for the base model that covers the valley and the other model one that ends it at the top of the wood. I'm curious to a couple of things, how many people think that there should be 2 models based on what I suggested, and how many people would use the separate piece that goes over the sweeping right arm/airbag piece. Me personally, I think I'm going to leave that piece off.

I will then transfer this wisdom to the designers at Dashmat :geek:
