It gets quite sunny in my neck of the woods. I know this is a big drain on battery power to cool the cabin. Consequently, I'd like to find at least a windshield shade to keep the cabin cooler when it's parked at work. I was surprised that there is no windshield shade on the BMW USA site.

The only part I found was a BMW i Climate Cover Part #82152348067. The darn thing looks sort of goofy not to mention it costs US $225! Anyone know of other options?

Thanks ..

I did a Google search, and found one company that makes them in a couple of versions for the i3. Dont' remember the site, but it shouldn't be all that hard to find. They at least claimed that they were custom made for the i3.

Interesting... only pic I could find of it...

I don't gets yours. That's the same product I mentioned. You think $225 is okay for a window shade?

I just bought one of these shades for ~$40. Custom made for the i3. Fits perfectly.

PERFECT :p

thank you, thank you!!

P.S. You can save $8 if you also buy 1 for another vehicle (i.e. $70 for 2)

Thanks for the Heatsheild link..just got an i3 set for windshield and side windows with the Cybermonday discount! While I like the outside concept, I think they could easily be stolen. With the inside version, the windows will still get hot but the heat penetration should be minimal. And the pricing can't be beat..<$65 with discount!

:)

The heatshields roll up when not in use. They are bulky. Front side shades are tricky to install because the front side windows, when the door opens, slides down about a half inch..so when you put the shade in place with the suction holders and the door closes .. the window goes back to full close, and the shade is dislodged. Since I got those at half price with the Black Friday discount I'll work with it.

Sorry about resurrecting an old thread, but has anyone used the rear window shades that BMW sells?

I'm wondering how well they keep the temperature down and how easy it is to see out of them while driving.

If you want to keep the sun off the windshield, side glass, rear glass and the top use a California Pop Top. It is white and it attaches to the car using the mirrors, wipers and a adjustable tie in the back of the car. I have used for the past 7 years and it really keeps the cabin much cooler because it covers everything, including the top. The cover is light weight and folds up very small for storage (easily would fit up front). Here is a link to the site:

i3 uses a XL cover which is $79.99 and is made in the USA.

I basically want tinting without getting tinting. My main concern is my REx is a lease and electric defrosters cause bubbles in film tinting.
My other car is nearly 4-years old...no bubbles. Depends on the skill and the type of install, I think...it's not a generic problem, but an installer issue.

Has anyone else tried any other shades yet?

The fold up (into a circle) shades from my e46 do not quite fit that well. I've found some that are foldable and slightly bigger that should do the trick on Amazon for about $12. But I'm wondering if the ones that fold like an accordion would be better. The ones I have now fit perfectly into the e46 passenger seat rear seat-pocket. Well, the i01 (i3) doesn't have this. Right now I've been putting them in the large passenger door pocket, but this seems tacky. Perhaps under the passenger seat?

I would love to find a set that are close in color to the BMW i blue accents. I'm probably wishing/asking for too much though.

My car only spends about 4 days per 28 day period in the sun but it did these 4 days within my first week of ownership and I know a proper tint job and proper size shades are needed for next month.

Thanks!
