Has anyone worked out what the cup holder insert is for?

It fits the key if you put it in nose first (the key that is..)

Maybe everyone's dealer pointed this out on handover, but mine didn't! :roll:

Given there's no coin tray anywhere else in the car, I figured the cup holder insert was removable so that if you threw some coins into it you could easily tip them out again

I keep the key in my pocket.

I believe it is a removable ash tray.

It's for your key(s). The car key goes in the square slot, and, if like most people probably do you have several others attached to it, they sit in the lower part. What other reason could that square slot be for?

My used 2014 BEV didn't come with any of these inserts. From what I can tell there are two; one looks like a proper ashtray (with lid) and the other is what some of you are describing as a key & coin holder.

I'd like to get the latter, but does anyone know if the key holder insert fits directly into the second (movable) cup holder? I believe the BMW part number is 5116-928315.

Is anyone selling it and willing to ship to Canada?
