Does anyone know how to remove the rear panel in the trunk area, where the trunk light is mounted? Would like to add more lighting but I can’t find any fasteners keeping the panels in, and I am not sure how these newer BMW are out together (my experience has been with a 1980 320i, and 1996 e36).

Thanks

Hopefully this should help you out:

Thanks guys! I started browsing the link above and since the rear seatbelt is under that cover, I was able to find what I needed. In case anyone else needs it: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/i01-i3-hat/repair-manuals/72-body-parts-accessories/72-11-seat-belts/1VnXfUKbo7

Thanks again!

Ah, glad you were able to find what you were looking for. I'm sorry I totally misunderstood what you meant.

Suggestion: I just pried out the little trunk light, pulled the fuse and wired in an additional lead, feeding an LED array fixed to the bottom of the cover lid. Fished the extra lead out beside the panel forward of the light. There's a disconnect on there for when I need it wide open for cargo. Makes a huge difference and didn't require pulling the panel.

I added a matching OEM trunk light on the left side, wiring it up to the existing light. Got it on Ebay used for $10. Much nicer to have light coming from both sides. They should have had a light above the trunk area similar to the rear seat light.

Thanks for the suggestion, I don’t have a lid anymore because my son’s school bag won’t fit with the lid in place, so out it went.
