eNate --- Short answer is YES.
State Farm confirmed 2 things.
1. Since the i3 has advanced driver assistance, State Farm will reimburse in full a BMW recalibration.
2. Since the i3 has advanced driver assistance, State Farm authorizes (and recommends) that i use BMW OEM windshield. The State Farm person (not my local agent) informed me that sometimes non-OEM glass will not allow all safety features to work. He also told me to look at the glass and make sure that the serial number is all numeric. If not, it may not be OEM. He assured me that since i will not have to pay the difference between generic Safelite aftermarket windshield and the BMW OEM windshield.
I will still be going to the particular Safelite Redwood City shop (appointment is Feb 24th) today or tuesday to make sure they ordered the correct glass and that they can recalibrate stuff. Plus i want to find out how long the work will take. Feels like 4-6 hours.
Lastly, i need to get an estimate wait time before i re-attach my dash cam to the windshield.
Guess i am happy to be able to own a car with insurance AND complain about. I have spend 3 hours on the phone today talking to various folks -- State Farm, Lynx (State Farms sub-contracted window/glass repair coordinator, BMW service and Safelite call center (cant talk to the shop directly unless i go visit in person).
