Hi everyone

I've just bought a 2016 94h Rex i3 and have a couple of issues with it. The main one is that there is no indicator blinking noise when using the turn signals or hazard lights (otherwise the lights work fine).

The only reference I can find to the problem online is in this video of i3 problems, which suggests the instrument cluster has an inbuilt speaker that can be replaced: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IpJp_acGUw&ab_channel=WiselyAutomotive

I can't find this part listed anywhere and buying a whole second-hand instrument cluster just for this spare part is quite an expense. Has anyone else managed to fix the issue in a different way?

Thanks for your advice - which definitely got me over the line to buy an i3 in the first place!

Had a quick look on Hubauer Shop and they don't list the part. That's not to say it doesn't exist, because we know it does.

Pick up some plastic trim tools, RS Tools or even EBay. I'd follow the video you listed and dismantle the cluster. What you need is a photograph of the code on the instrument cluster speaker. I had a quick scan, but didn't turn up anything, but with the product code I reckon you'll find the part listed, as other manufacturers have similar set ups.

Wow that was a great video!

It's hard to believe that a tiny speaker like that would fail – I'd have thought the prior owner coding off the speaker would be a much more likely situation.

One other thought comes to mind... do a quick test! Getting to the speaker looks very easy so you could remove it and measure continuity between the two pins of the speaker's wiring harness. If it reads open then you pretty much know that the speaker has failed.

Ah, one more idea – your profile doesn't say where you are, but maybe find a local parts yard or if you're in the US try https://www.picknpull.com to see if you can find a cluster display.

It would be great for future owners if you'd update this thread with your fix. I've been on this board since 2015 and this is the first time I've heard of this fault.

Good luck!

I took another look at the video to watch carefully as the presenter removed the speaker, hoping to see if there was a BMW part number there, but no, there wasn't.

However.

I paused the video while he has the speaker in his hands (about 3:51) and the following can be read on the back of the part:

GREWUS
SH3032P-07A
26.01.14

A quick search on "Grewus" shows that it is a Hamburg-based acoustic products maker and searching for "Grewus SH3032P-07A" lead me to this page:
https://www.grewus.de/en/produkte/sh-3032p-08-a/

You might need to click on "EN" at the top of the page for English. The "Factsheet Download" button takes you to a highly-detailed 9-page PDF.

The difference between -07A in that video and -08A on the website may just be a running production change but you'd probably have to do more research.

Again, good luck!

Wow - you guys are amazing sleuths! Thanks so much for all this advice and other avenues to pursue. I'm waiting on a local breaker to see if they'll give me the part but will try this original manufacturer too. Will post back when I've tried a fix. Be interested to hear more from someone who knows whether it's a coding option that the previous owners might have changed too. That would be an easier solution to fix if so.

Thanks again!

Probably the best channel out there for i3 DIY's and repairs.
