In short, don't panic if the site is unreachable for a period in the next 5-7 days!

Tentatively planned for March 18, 2022

In order to keep the forum running smoothly, we've decided to upgrade the server that this site lives on. Since the server is so much newer and better, we have to upgrade the forum software to a newer version as well.

Steps:
1. Disable the forum (you'll see a message and be unable to reach the forum)
2. Copy files to new server
3. Point the domain name to the new server

Once your DNS provider updates the new server information, you'll see the forum again, and that means the transfer is finished and you are good to go!

Transfer is complete! There are still a few things to iron out and but the part that required the site to be inaccessible is completed.

If you notice anything that isn't working, please let me know.

Thanks,
Mike

Hello, Mike –

First off, thank you for maintaining this board! I've been here since 2015 and it has been very helpful over the years!

The only thing I've noticed after the transfer is that the "Active topics" link (which I use every time I log in) is now inside the hamburger menu. This board doesn't allow inline images, so I can't illustrate the change, unfortunately.

Post-transfer (and when logged in) notice the upper left of the Forums page. Below the "RESEARCH" tab there used to be a link to "Active topics" which was very easy to click to see new posts but that link is now inside the hamburger "Quick Links" drop-down.

I find that this re-location of UI-related links to the "Quick Links" drop-down makes the user experience less pleasant.

Could the "Active topics" link please be restored to a top-level link?

Good catch! I've made the 'active topics' link a top level link.

Thank you, Mike!

The moment I hopped on to the site tonight I immediately noticed that "Active Topics" has been restored as a top-level link and I very much appreciate the change.

Hello again, Mike –

One other thing I've recently noticed (though it's probably been this way for a while) is that, while the top level www.mybmwi3.com site is https:// secured, clicking the Forum link http://www.mybmwi3.com/forum/ leads to a non-https forum session.

I don't run a browser extension like HTTPS Everywhere and I can upgrade to https by manually altering the forum URL but thought you might be interested to know how the site is currently presenting itself.
