There is a dash button for the heated rear glass...not sure about the mirrors. The car DOES have an external temperature sensor (it can easily be displayed on the screen if you wish), so the computer does know when it is cold. Internally, the heating circuit does have a thermostat, so would cycle when enabled, not run continuously.
