Any reports of damage due to exposure to high temperatures and intense UV?

I do have the carbon fiber roof, still in black and undamaged, but I take care not to park the car in full sunlight in summer, as it can get as hot and intense as in Cyprus. I cover the car with a plastic woven fabric sheet and the sheet is gone in one season due to UV detoriation...

    Brake lights or not…

The brake lights are tied to a certain treshold of deceleration, according to an accelerometer. So you can descent a hill with regen without engaging the brake lights, if you do not decellerate. Similar to a car that uses engine braking to keep a constant downhill speed.

Is the i3 using hold mode or coast mode when you stop?

That is something I hate from cars with automatic transmissions that creep. They hold the brake pedal while waiting for the red light, blinding me with the rear brake lights. Especially Volvos have too bright brake lights. It forces me to keep 15 feet of distance, otherwise it looks to me if I...

Is the i3 using hold mode or coast mode when you stop?

True. My i3 got hill-hold as an early update, before that it was not yet implemented. So if you have the lever in D, you will still roll off a hill forward, but not backwards. In reverse, the behaviour is also reversed. That is all...

Dreaded Drivetrain Fault 2019 120aH BEV (not REX)

That feels like a crazy amount. But if you are into High-End audio and have attended shows, you will see similar prices for sophisticated audio equipment like amplifiers or turntables and some folks buy those without a blink of the eye. So yes, sophisticated electronics has it's price.

    Front tires $65

For what it is worth, a few weeks ago I bought two rear tires (no surprise..). I chose summer tires, because winters are mild here, below zero is an exeption. I chose for the Michelin e-Primacy 19/70/155 for about 160,- euro per tire, excl. mounting and balancing. I noticed a more silent ride...

URGENT - advice needed on dead i3 after 12v battery failure.

It is perfectly possible to charge the car with a portable generator. If you take an inverter model that puts out pure sine waves and enough power you will possibly manage. I know because I have such a generator and used it to charge a few times, just to find out if it works. Driving on gas lol.

    Engaging gear

Only from parking to D or R. I do suggest though, that when switching from D to R while parking, you better wait until the car comes to a stop. It is not an electric forklift ;)

My i3 shows wrong expected loading time on the dashboard

Wild guess, but you plug in between 17:00 and -say- 20:00 hours? If it takes 3 hours and something to charge to full, the dashboard will show the clock time when it is finished, not the time that it takes to charge. So plug in at 17:00 with charging time of 3:15 hours will give you a clock time...

2017 Bmw i3 gear selector lever replacement

Maybe this thread gives you some clues: https://www.mybmwi3.com/threads/replacing-gear-selector-lever-in-i3-rex-2013.18425/

    New transmission required

So if associated parts are say another $1000, that brings $5000 divided by 14 hours = $357 per hour on labor alone? Ridiculous in my view.

Replacing gear selector lever in i3 rex 2013

I should have thought about that ;-) Now in a warmer climate, the lever never gets loose. Definitely a temperature related issue -but maybe not for every owner. If you keep your car in a garage, you may never notice.

Why EV's won't be taking over gas cars anytime soon in the USA.

I would jump a hole in the air when charging times would be ~15 mins! Just enough to get a cup of coffee and a sanitary stop. But no, I think EV's will stay a relatively nice product in the end, when all dustclouds are cleared. I do not oppose "fossil" fuels, preferably natural gas. Cheap and...

What to do with a carbon fibre tub?

Maybe he is talking about converting his disassembled i3 into a carbon bathtub?

What Car Did You Drive Before Going Electric

Yes I find BMW has done a good job here. For me it is reliable enough to make decisions about the trip. I think that when you enter the destination in the nav, the GOM will probably initially ignore your previous trip behavior and uses f.e. the maximum traffic speeds "en route" (pardon my...

    Mobile phone charging ... drain?

If it is draining your phone battery, did you check if the car range went up a bit? Maybe there is a hidden feature to charge your car with a mobile phone in case you run out of electrons before reaching a charging point. Just guessing..

"Drive moderately. Apply additional braking when necessary. Consult nearest service center."

I now live on top of a hill, and the regen works fine going down the hill -without use of the friction brakes- when I leave with 100% charge (which is in reality less than 100% due to a top end buffer). I rather think that you have less/no regen when the bms decides that the pack is too cold to...

Reason will only charge to 100%

So we have 12 cells per module, every cell has to be balanced somehow, so there should be a mechanism that assigns the module resistor to a cell to be balanced, if there is only one resistor per module. And then the modules themselves should be balanced against each other also. I don't know the...

Reason will only charge to 100%

Different car, but my Kangoo EV has 50 bms cell-modules, each equipped with a 1 Watt dissipating resistor when balancing. It takes at least a few hours to balance the pack. Of course not every resistor need to dissipate electrons in the form of heat, but per 200Ah cell, it burns about 4Wh of...
