Coding in SLC, Utah

Tue Jul 31, 2018 1:01 pm

Hello,

I just bought a 2015 i3 Rex and I’m trying to see if anyone has someone or know someone in the SLC area that can code. I want to do a bunch of things but don’t feel comfortable doing them on my own or know which program to go with. I would prefer paying someone to do it but I can’t find anyone.

Let me know if you know of anyone in SLC.

Thanks!

The Bimmercode app really is pretty simple. It can't do everything that some of the other methods can, but there is almost no learning curve, and the app and required OBD II adapter are both available for less than $50 total. The app's author is constantly adding things to the 'simple' mode, and the expert mode is still there if you feel comfortable working in that (plus, it does a backup, so you can go back if you don't get the results you want). Keep in mind, 'coding' a BMW is done by flipping 'switches' already in the software...the basic code is not changed. Then, if the car goes in for service, you can restore your preferences without having to pay someone all over again. Almost any software update done by the dealership will reset everything to factory defaults, so having the ability to restore your preferences is a good idea.

That is good to know. I have just seen coding places that can do a lot more than the apps I have looked into. I’ll probably just do the app and watch a YouTube video. Thanks for the insight and your help!

I want to unlock the full gas tank and also the hold state of charge but can’t find it in the app. Can I do it with this app?

Others have, from what I've read, but I do not know the details. I have a BEV, so haven't looked. You may need to go into expert mode, but make sure you have the latest update to the app. IF you have a Facebook account, or are willing to sign in, there's a fairly active i3 coding group on there that can probably give you the details. Also, do a search here, as the topic has been discussed.
