    Big trip

Sorry to hear that... I would really like to know the full story with i3 and the ecotricity L2 EVSE, there have been reports of 'incompatibilities'. I'd love to understand the issue, and is it likely to be fixed soon? Has anyone had any success charging at ecotricity? [of course the bmw i3...

BMW i3 REX - Taking too long to charge on Maximum Setting

Was it a Blink charger in San Diego ? Blink reduced the charging rate on all public chargers because of the connector overheating, then the company got bought out by car charging group and I'm not sure if this issue has been fixed yet...

    Charging query

The battery suffers more degradation when left at a very low SOC, therefore it would make perfect sense to immediately start charging if at only 4%, and stop at maybe 20%, leaving the main charge to continue at the scheduled time. You'd think it would be documented somewhere though !

    What Car? BMW i3 long-termer

Great idea Paul, I would love to know about the practicality of public charging. If you can charge at your destination for 3hrs (and the charge point is actually working and free!) it seems ok In terms of longer journeys, >80 miles, it seems possible to have a quick pit stop en route for...

    Range extender or Not?

Not really answering the question, but to phrase it another way: how much time waiting for charging en route are you prepared to accept, which depends on: - your range of daily driving distances - access to chargers en route or at destination (and speed of charger) Waiting for a normal slow...

Pics from 24h with i3 REX in Arravani Grey

Goldcj7: what kind of location will this charger be at? Bunter: I don't think you can easily 'see' if the DC charge prep has been installed on a euro model as it just reconfigures some of the extra power pins in the Mennekes connector. Unless I am missing something! In the USA the J1772...

Replace standard headlight bulbs with LEDs

In my opinion, "Cold weather cabin preparation" is a terrible option name, and BMW don't seem to provide any proper description of what difference selecting it makes. "Heat pump" or "High efficiency heater" would be better. I would love to hear from anyone with a REx or non-"Cold weather cabin...

    Your first few 100 kilomters?

Gosh. There have been some strong winds, and this might be a factor too, you may need to consider wind speed/direction, heater use and amount of fast driving when pushing the limit of range. Regarding the "22KW charger", this would only be charging at 7KW as that's all the i3 supports - single...

Replace standard headlight bulbs with LEDs

I'm sure the heat pump is a much more significant benefit to range, it's probably a ~1kW resistance heater that gets replaced by a ~2.5x more efficient refrigerant cycle. Which saves ~600W and will really help keep your range up in winter. Note the wattages are a complete guess but should be...

    BMW i3 REx vs Tesla S 60kwh

Interesting calculation, ultraturtle... I ran the numbers for other grid intensities, and for your 80% and 95% electric usage I found a link which suggests 180-280kgCO2 per kWh of lithium battery. The extra ~40kWh of lithium batteries in the Tesla may have emitted ~16000 to 24000lbs CO2 (can...

    New year resolutions... For BMW

Any suggestions? Here are some for starters 1. 3 phase built in charger (like Zoe). UK has a lot of 3 phase capable chargers, and 22Kw (say) is massively better than 7... No combo chargers exist here. 2. Clarity on cabin pre heating 3. Less complexity with options, e.g. heat pump, and...

Cabin pre-heating - possible or not?

Does anyone know the full story on cabin pre-heating on the i3? In the UK it is tedious defrosting the car after a layer of ice has formed, and to set off only to have it fog up after 100m because the interior is still cold. It seems to be tied to the heated seats option ("Winter package" at...
