Good afternoon!
Thought i'd post here about the adventure replacing the charging socket lock mechanism.
Details:
The white pin over the EVSE socket that locks your charging cable in place *will* eventually stop working. I tore mine apart, and there are a *lot* of things that can go wrong...
Just noticed my 2015 BMW i3 has a firmware update available on BMW's website:
https://www.bmw.com/update
Looks like it's from December 2018
The list of changes shows: "Improves ConnectedDrive Services."
I'm a little concerned about losing my lifetime maps updates :-)
Interestingly, for the...
A quick side note, i've been keeping those steps updated with how to change the condenser + charge the system.
The AC oil was a horrible mess since BMW is all over the place on what to use. Let me know if anything looks wrong.. I spent way too much time trying to decode what BMW wanted me to...
The hardware cloth worked wonders.
It really looks best if you install it with the bumper off... which I admit is a pain for such a modification.
I cut out a section and formed it to the inner side of the bumper's air intake. Then I primed it with self etch and pained it black (to hide it a...
4 hours in. *definitely* going to put the hardware cloth in-front of the condenser. To change the condenser you must:
Warning: By following the steps here, you're taking the continued functionality of your
BMW i3 into your own hands. New electric AC compressors run several thousand dollars...
Just spent my lunch break ripping into it. The most difficult part seems to be a black cross-member added by BMW for the US market under the fronk storage bin. It sits right above the condenser/radiator. The service manual says on US cars you have to remove the front bumper and left...
A few weeks ago with it starting to warm up in Texas, I noticed the AC wasn't cooling.
I got a AC valve set, and attempted to check the pressure. 0.
A quick look at the front of the car and I realized the AC condenser took a small stone and damaged it causing a leak.
Looking around online, I...
Just got this fixed under warranty. The fuel tank pressure sensor has corrosion issues with us fuel. Causes tank to randomly not open due to invalid pressure readings.
In later sensors the wires are gold plated to prevent the corrosion issues re-occurrence.
Get it fixed under warranty while...
On my first "long" (160 mi) drive I kept a well-sealed 5-gallon tank behind the passenger seat (on top of the batteries, i'm pretty dumb :P)
I learned pretty quickly though that there *really* isn't a need to carry gas as long as you have the correct 2.4gal tank size and the 75% hold...
Thought I would share my BMW i3 experience.
Making a big move from Houston to Austin (160+ mile trip). My beloved 2014 2-year owned Leaf wouldn't make the trip without stopping at RV Parks to charge for 4+ hours (or getting it hauled for several hundred dollars). Instead of having it hauled...
