Ordering this week - Question about Comfort Access

I don't think the blue light comes on unless you unlock the car with the key fob, which defeats the whole purpose of comfort access. My salesman showed me the feature at delivery but since I'm always using comfort access I don't get any benefit from it.

Ordering this week - Question about Comfort Access

I would not order a car without this feature. When my i3 was in for service last month they gave me a loaner that didn't have it, and it was incredibly annoying having to reach for the key fob every time I wanted to unlock or lock the car.

    REx Class Action Lawsuit

While there should be a choice to turn on the Rex earlier, I absolutely would not want it forcibly activated at 10% or 20%. On all but one occasion where I have run the battery low enough for the range extender to activate, I was within 2 miles of home and could have easily made it home on the...

    Rex low oil?

My car wanted its first oil change 12 months after production (not delivery, which has only been 8 months). In that time I'd only run the range extender for about 30 minutes total, so it seemed like kind of a waste but I did it anyway since BMW paid for it.

    More range?

Mine was in for service last week and I've also noticed the range calculations seem to be higher than they were before. I don't know if it really translates into increased range though. Most likely the computer just needs time to recalibrate its range calculations.

2016 i3 in the United States- REX only?

There are at least some 2016 BEVs in the US because they did the special Shadow Sport edition in BEV only. I agree that in California at least the BEV would be in greater demand due to the white HOV stickers.

    I3 unsafe in winter weather?

With winter mostly behind us, I can say the i3 performed remarkably well with the factory all season tires. Although it was a mild winter compared the last couple, we did have several significant snowfalls and icy days and I always felt in control. I may not drive with the same confidence as...

    Key differences: 2014 vs 2015 vs 2016

This change happened with the 2015 model, not 2016. It makes it easy to differentiate the first year production models.

    2017 i3

Model years can run for as long as 24 months. The only restriction is you can only use the current or following year as the model year for production in a given year. In other words, during 2016 you can label production as a 2016 or 2017 model at any point in the year, but you can not produce...

    Preconditioning - heated seats

I've never tried the cloth seats for comparison, but I find the leather seats heat up plenty fast and never need to go above 1.

    Involontary window open

Does anyone know if it is possible to disable this feature? I've encountered it a few times and it's highly annoying especially when you've parked outside on a cold day. I'm afraid it's going to happen on a rainy day at some point and I'm going to come back to a soaked car.

    BMW i3 Recall

I received the recall notice yesterday for my May 2015 build i3.

Did you pay tax on the $7500 rebate?

The tax credit only applies to a purchase, and ACDC mentioned they are leasing it. In this case, the tax credit is presented in the form of a $7500 rebate/incentive that is considered a capitalized cost reduction. You do have to pay sales tax on capitalized cost reductions (typically as part...

    Help with Lease

The deal should be legit. When I leased mine a few months ago, my dealer was offering $399/mo 0 down on all in-stock i3s regardless of equipment. I'm surprised this dealer found room to knock an extra $100/mo off the payment without any extra EV incentives, but either they or BMW must just be...

BMW i announces ChargeNow DC Fast Expansion

Nothing near Detroit either. I doubt I'll ever get to use my DC fast charge port at this rate.

perspective for lease buyers ($300/month for loaded 15)

$56k would be a REx wouldn't it? I can't think of any way to get a BEV to price that high.

    I drive 25,000 miles per year- I guess a lease is a no-go?

You can prepay for as many miles as you expect to use. All it does is raise your monthly payment.

    Buying a dealer demo

It's entirely possible. If the dealer claims the tax credit instead of the leasing company, they would likely be expected to repay it to the leasing company, but that's between them and the bank. There's no need to worry about qualifying with the IRS like you would need to if you were...

When was padded palm rest removed?

I never even noticed it was missing and can see why. Usually I'll have my elbow resting on the armrest when using the controller, so the palm rest wouldn't be of much use anyway. I'd have to be holding my arm unusually low to make use of it.

DIY: Highbeam Headlamp Replacement / Upgrade

Thanks for bumping this thread. It sounds like a very easy and desirable mod, so I've gone ahead and ordered the turn signal and high beam LEDs. For less than $80 retail, I don't know why BMW feels the need to cheap out on these light bulbs when everything else is already LED.
