    Battery Replacement Under Warranty

Regardless of the ambient temperature and charging power the number of kWh the battery receives is equal to its current Batt.Kapa, taking into account 5-10% losses. That's according to my logs (daily for 20 months), but I don't think i3 battery packs are as unique as everything else these days...

    Battery Replacement Under Warranty

My understanding is that Batt.Kapa shows the kWh that the battery is either able or allowed to accept during charging. At least that's been happening in my case (I checked this assumption many times, including after almost complete battery depletion and charging up to 100%). As to the BMW...

    Battery Replacement Under Warranty

In my case low temperature seems to accelerate the rate of Batt.Kapa decrease. But the latter never picks up in summer. Check my stats here, I have a chart with Batt.Kapa over months later in the thread https://www.mybmwi3.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16253

Ran my BEV down to ZERO!

In my case I did this on purpose the next day after resetting the adaptation values of my 2015 BEV. That’s to check the true level of degradation and if the battery calibration was still accurate. Drove it down to zero SOC and 0.1 kWh in Batt.Ladung menu, covered 160 km (back in the end of...

    DIY HV Battery upgrade

Nissan could have said anything, people in Ukraine are trying anyways, that's just how things work here. And they've been successful in upgrading from 24 to 30 kWh (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHLddeIxxig). BTW, these guys even tried going from 24 kWh to 40 kWh, but failed - the car drove...

Some stats for the year of use

Other 60Ah that I know of in Kyiv are in the same ball park. Also, I bought it used, so the total mileage is 34K miles / 54.5K km now. Secondly, the i3's BMS is notorious of not knowing what's going on with the battery, degradation included. Most likely, it just guesses the level of degradation...

Some stats for the year of use

I've done the battery re-initialization in my 2015 BEV recently, so the stats are going to be skewed for some time. Hence sharing my previous logged data for over one year of use and 29K km driven. - All data points are monthly averages of daily logs (days I drove the car). I logged data before...

    DIY HV Battery upgrade

At least it's being done in Leafs on almost industrial scale by third party workshops in Ukraine, and with great success. There are plenty of reports on Youtube. Haven't seen anything re i3 though.

Charging after Reinitizalization of Battery Pack

You could easily check cell voltages at 100% and close to depletion using ISTA+, as well as reported cap and floor buffers. Check my post here for more details https://www.mybmwi3.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=13535&p=56484#p56484. As far as the electricity getting into the pack is concerned...

BMW Confirms No Direct i3 Successor

I wonder why they should do it, they are still launching Mini Cooper EV shortly. I would certainly remove the existing i3 from the lineup - it's probably still generating losses for each car sold, and BMW is no Tesla with endless pool of capital around - they need to manage their financials...

    Where'd My Battery Go???

You may want to check if the preconditioning is set for some time on a daily basis. In case it's on, the car uses its battery to complete this function. Although, it takes about 5-7% of charge from my personal experience.

Some stats for the year of use

All data are captured from the dashboard and instrument panel. I take photos of SOC and ambient temperature when I depart and arrive home, otherwise only temperature when in between trips. Once a day, usually upon arrival, I also get Batt.Kapa, Batt.Ladung and battery temperature data from...

    Charge Percentage

The top of the pack is indeed limited at 94% of actual capacity for a healthy battery. In case of 60Ah it's about 4.09V cell voltage (actual 100% should be about 4.15-4.20V cell voltage, haven't seen a SOC / cell voltage curve for i3, let me know if you saw it). If you check your pack via ISTA+...

    Should work now, thanks

Some stats for the year of use

Here's the screenshot of the pivot table with monthly averages from my daily stats file I've logged for more than a year of use. My i3 is 09/2015 60Ah BEV, 30.5K miles now, I bought it at 15.7K miles in the US and brought it to Ukraine in the end of May 2018. The A column contains months -...

    Cell balancing

Thanks, I may perform the re-initialization, this is why I spend time to install ISTA+ in the first place. Have been researching the downsides for a while before I pull the trigger.

    Cell balancing

Thank you, I stand corrected, it does seem to plummet abruptly closer to zero SOC. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find any voltage vs. SOC curve, but based on the screenshots borrowed from here https://www.goingelectric.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=71&t=21752&start=750, this healthier battery...

    Cell balancing

I checked my logs during the extended weekend we had in Ukraine, and it appeared that my last 100% charge took place back in March. And also, I had only five full 100% charges during March as well, with average beginning of day SOC staying at 85% both for March and April. This looked like a...

Converting I3 from US CCS to EU CCS

Correct, it should just work. On top of the plug replacement, my OUC was modified to accept 220V instead of 120V, I'm not aware of the technical details though, it's a standard procedure.

    Management of Battery Life

This is not the only area where lab tests fail to capture all real world variables, especially if conducted by a biased party. Check some independent tests on real cars here https://avt.inl.gov/vehicle-button/2014-BMW-i3. All three vehicles show about 8% degradation at 12K miles. That’s too...
