    Highest Mileage i3/REX?

81,000 miles in a 2016 94ah, no rex. Bought it with 4000 miles on it and have never serviced it bar a brake fluid change and a new pollen filter. Brake pads will outlast the car. Only issues I've had is the driver's heated seat trips after a few minutes until the next journey, front suspension...

Has anyone tried the 'electrified' app'?

I was thinking of the 3 year car warranty not the 7 year battery warranty. As nice as it is to have a high SOH as long as the range does the job then that is what matters. As long as I can do my 60 miles commute then that is fine.

Has anyone tried the 'electrified' app'?

What sort of mileage have you done to have a have a SOH of 69% - that seems low for a car still in warranty? Mine is @ 91% on a 94Ah 2016 BEV with 53,000 miles on it. My alarm also goes off if left plugged in - could someone else unlock the car using bluetooth signal hence why you can't leave...

    Range and warm weather

My plan B was drive slower on the way back - Having to change your driving style is probably why pure electric vehicles are still rather niche. I would only recommend a BEV if you can plan most of your driving in advance like commuting and you do enough miles to recoup the purchase price - I did...

    Range and warm weather

Much over 30°C then the battery won't like it. When I started to charge the car at the end of the day on my trickle charger (240v @ 10amps) I did hear fans start under the bonnet (hood) but only for a few minutes. I knew about open windows causing drag but guessed the switch over point would be...

    Range and warm weather

Got my best range out of a single charge last week - 145 miles with 6 miles left in the battery (94Ah BEV). Had the aircon on all the way there only to find the destination charger was broken - had used 50% charge to get there. drove more slowly on the way back with no aircon (except for last 15...

own ICE cars, wish you didn't?

Currently doing about 20,000 miles a year in my 94Ah i3 BEV. My wife's car is a BMW 320D (diesel) Tourer which has done 120,000 miles but now doing about 3000 miles a year - mostly short trips while I'm at work and then longer trips when taking kids to and from university which requires lots of...

    Precondition batteries without charging

The optimum temperature for the battery is around 30°C (David Bricknell book on i3). My highest range I've seen on the GOM was 178 miles (eco pro plus) - The temperature that day was 28°C last summer.

Battery degradation driven by aging, charge cycles and charge current

You are right - Just checked in the book by David Bricknell - cabin heater can do 5kw bursts for short periods when very cold which will be drawn from the battery if I'm using my trickle charger.

Battery degradation driven by aging, charge cycles and charge current

That as well - 2kw cabin heater and 1kw battery heater from a 2.4kw charger! If only there was a button to just warm the battery or prioritise one requirement over another.

Battery degradation driven by aging, charge cycles and charge current

Battery preconditioning only works with a set departure time and the car is plugged into a charger. Cabin heating will still trigger even if the car is not plugged into a charger. Supposedly for battery preconditioning to work the the departure time needs to be at least 3 hours in the future. By...

Battery degradation driven by aging, charge cycles and charge current

Using the hidden menu (press and hold the mileage trip reset for 10 seconds, scroll down to unlock, type in sum of 1st 6 or 8 digit of vin, scroll to temperature menu) There are better instructions possibly on this forum for unlocking the menus

Battery degradation driven by aging, charge cycles and charge current

I've tried to only partially charge the battery before (I use a timer on the socket to control when it starts) with my trickle charger set to 2.4kw and after 3 hours the battery will be nearly fully charged 80% to 100% and the battery will only have increased in temperature by a couple of...

Battery degradation driven by aging, charge cycles and charge current

If a lower state of charge is recommended unless extra range required, how can you warm the battery without increasing the SOC? Is driving with a lower SOC and a cold battery better than a higher SOC with a warm battery?

How do you run the heating or radio without starting the car?

So it does - I'm sure the radio never used to work. The heating option Is a bit of a faff but good to know. Used to be a single button on my old 3 series. Thanks

How do you run the heating or radio without starting the car?

Is there any way to use the radio or heating without pressing stop/start?

    Precondition batteries without charging

By having a warm battery then in the long term the battery will have gone through less charge/discharge cycles. If you only do low annual mileage then maybe not worth it. I do 20,000 miles a year so am looking to get the best out of the battery over the long term.

    Effect of preconditioning on range?

Taking readings from the hidden battery temperature menu I'm getting around 5 to 6 degrees C increase in battery temperature when preconditioning. This is off a slow 10amp 240v charger. I try to precondition the batteries when the outside temperature drops below 10 degrees C. I've no real need...

    Connected Drive fail(s)

Location updated. I'll have to get BMW to check when it goes in for its 2 year check up.
