BMW i3 - Why did you get one, OR Why do you want one?

EV is a technological breakthrough, it effectively increases world's transportation resources 2~3x, that's massive improvement to world's standard of living. Too much focus is put on the environmental aspect, that its economic benefit is unknown to most people. Not only that, the mechanical...

Please Seriously Consider a 4WD SUV for the i-series

This is the state of affairs from last Fall: Rumor: BMW i5 Will Be An SUV Arriving In 2021 October 31st, 2016 by Steve Hanley http://gas2.org/2016/10/31/bmw-i5-suv-arriving-2021/ A conflicting story from Carbuyer puts its release at 2018...

Please Seriously Consider a 4WD SUV for the i-series

Mitsubishi eX SUV 250 mi BEV scheduled for 2020 production http://www.motortrend.com/news/we-hear-mitsubishi-ex-concept-is-greenlit-for-production/ A good move by Mitsubishi, though it needs to see the light from BMW i3 that people want 100 mi EV with range extender as well, especially since...

Please Seriously Consider a 4WD SUV for the i-series

Yes they are dragging their feet, the latest murmur was that another i series car won't come out before 2020, because they still haven't decided what to make. They have wasted the past 3 years on X5 xDrive40e, which is a huge step backward in terms of EV design. If a rookie car player called...

Please Seriously Consider a 4WD SUV for the i-series

Now 2 years have passed since I made this thread. It's always sad to see a company with state-of-art technology fails to execute in the market. Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV sold 43K worldwide in 2015, same as Nissan Leaf, only behind Tesla Model S. BMW i3 sold 24K worldwide in the same period...

Will the Rex keep running with flat batteries?

There is likely another 10% reserve below the 0% threshold. My guess is that BMW consider the 5% compromise reasonable to slight battery degradation. Although they did mention that the range extender is not meant to be used regularly. So if one has a commute that requires daily draining of...

8 or 17 Gallon CNG Tank to Replace the REx Gas Tank

Not really a good idea. The gas range extender can actually enable an odd 300-500 mile trip. Not so for CNG. That would be a significant loss of feature.

Please Seriously Consider a 4WD SUV for the i-series

If there was a lingering doubt as to the market, the success of Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV should have already cleared it. I sincerely hope BMW would not sit still like GM did all these years while it had the technology lead. BMW currently is leading the carbon fiber body tech but the advantage...

Access to the 'Range Extender' connection point.

It's best to be safe, my guess the motor area is supposed to be accessed/serviced by electricians trained to work with high voltage. Would hate to see some random forum member run into an 'accident' by messing with it. Why can't you just live with the stock range extender? There are just too...

    i3 sales already over 10000?

According to ecomento: http://ecomento.com/2014/01/27/electric-bmw-i3-waiting-list-six-months-long-global-sales-surpass-11000/ It also says 1200 already ready for usa. If that is the case bmw has picked up production speed. However conflicting story quoted bmw north america chief expecting only...
