    Metallic chafing noise from front

almost certainly stones stuck against the brake disc and shield, per mojo's post. carry wooden chopsticks can usually see the problem and release by pushing the shield plate back by poking through the wheel spokes happened to me 4 times and 3 of those in the first month

    Oil change in REX

Mine was purchased from Japan with only 4,000 Km and 2 yrs on it, optioned with the synthetic oil so in theory it's only due an oil service when the car says to or 24 mnths. Rex mostly only does mtce cycles 10 mins runtime every 60 days so the engine averages less than 2 hrs runtime per year...

    Cleaning up after squirrel damage

The Yellow cable with Green stripe is likely a ground bonding wire, so exposed strands shouldnt pose any risk. The rest of the mess I would brush soapy water around, only the amount necessary to run off the residue there. European wiring harnesses use a cloth with containing some oil which...

    Drivetrain emergency release

there is a sequence of selecting positions on the drive / neutral / reverse selector to put the car in a neutral state for the purpose of pushing the vehicle off a road for instance when the drivers door is open and the vehicle would normally lock the park pawl. I think your warning message is...

I have the FSC code and jt5026 also has it but that is not our problem. in NAV menu on the display, when trying to insert the USB with the new map files, the USB heading is greyed out it does not come alive when plugging in the USB, so the next step enter the FSC code is not appearing on...

    ISTA Install Help

Thanks for the info about Rex runtime, I'm guessing the dealer used ISTA to read it out - I havent quite got there yet. Finally downloaded Aloharts 4.10 link to ISTA+ The diagnostic part opens and runs however I'm not certain of this ISTA+ being inluding the ISTA-P files and I dont see any...

    Frankenstein i3 thoughts

My understanding is that salvage or new modules might need coding to fit your car and using Esys or at most the ISTA+ program should be sufficient to do this. Be sure its not just a glitch from a low 12V battery and has the day long AC power bootstrap method been visited? Yes I think...

    DC Fast charging issue

I find using DC rapid chargers here (ABB brand units) they come up with a communication fault sometimes and wont start charging. I now make sure to turn off the i3 completely before pluging in then press the start icon on the charger I think thats when the locking latch clicks. It unlatches if...

    Rex replacement

Its not efficient. the version here (and I'd love to have one) puts out 2.6 KW for 4.5L fuel per hour the i3 Rex puts out 23 KW so how does 45 Litres/hr of Jet-A (Kerosine or Diesel) sound? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wa8kS8EZWmQ&ab_channel=gasturbine101 actually I can show you how it...

    ISTA Install Help

Interesting, I'm about to put my i3 on a top up AC charge session as I mostly DC rapid charge which stops at 95% and I should occasionally do the full 100% to allow BMS balance to occur. Havent done this for a while as normally dont do long trips - just recharging from low-ish to near full in...

    Rex replacement

My i3 Rex specs are 200km from battery net output of 27.5 kW/hr = 7.27 km per kW and an additional 130km from the generator output of 23.5kW net = 5.53 km per kW from 9 Litres of fuel = 14.4 Litres per 100km for the small size and weight of the Rex, that is a reasonably efficient use...

ex - Japan vehicles Australia - NZ navi change DIY?

Hi, 3 yrs on and got nowhere. Still check the various sites I did download ISTA via Mega only the read part works so I cannot program or see what that section is capable of. Probably easiest way is to buy a formatted DVD if one exists but again there is no way to discover the tools you need...

    Mystery window lowering

twice in 1 week staying at motels, found the i3 had wound windows down and unlocked. it happens when the remote buttons get pushed if in range. As i have keyless entry I folded some stiff plastic over the buttons and put the whole remote inside a small pouch.

    SME battery management faulty.

seems to me it would be worth the cost of having the battery capacity degradation check done If the dealership can charge and discharge the battery and measure better than 70% of new capacity then you will have more than 70 miles range. the range you currenty have seems well short of the spec...

    SME battery management faulty.

The SME is within the HV battery and is the cell management electronics. I guess it will be expensive to look at and wonder if fully charging the battery at least 3 times might help ensure the battery management system can correctly balance the cells - this process wont happen if the car is not...

Very loud REX - any solutions?

WOF garage means the Warrant of Fitness check, in England its called MOT (made orrible tea) Alex, I just let the Rex do its thing, preferably during an out of town trip, it only runs 6 times a year which is probably the minimum for keeping the fuel fresh enough and the parts from rusting...

Very loud REX - any solutions?

Alex, correct the Rex does not run if state of charge is above 75%. It also wont run for mtce. if fuel level is below approx. 1/4. In this case you get bugged by display warnings until you relent and top it up so it can complete a 60 days 10 mins mtce run, then it shuts up for another two...

    drivetrain malfunction

insulation codes on earlier Rex models was often associated with moisture in the generator windings. Those vehicles either had the Rex gen. replaced or did some running in dry conditions to keep the moisture out. Believe improvements were made mid 2016.

A puddle of gas under the rear of the car.

there has been a recall fault on some models where the fuel return line gets cut open by chaffing on a HV line plastic conduit, the area for this concern is forward of the Rex engine and between the electric machine and the Rex. If this happens while the Rex is running it can lead to the car...
