    Is REx worth it?

I am probably biased (I drive my second i3 REX), but here is what I think. As much as I like the i3, as a pure BEV there are better options out there these days. Just buy a Model 3 SR and you don't have to deal with peculiarities of the i3, better range, practicality warranty, easy tires, etc...

    2015 Rex misfire issues

If you have these misfire error codes (125001,125002, 125003) after switch to winter fuel blend, you should also check this TSB: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10181216-9999.pdf?fbclid=IwAR1N4N-jiC0_qMuMDFTsMLIRlAyLy0UvGwF3FMlb2uNg74M8edmEl5d8LCo It costs $10 to DIY this solution.

    Custom Rex Retrofit Project

It makes more sense to retrofit a larger battery, a used 94ah or 120 ah pack should be pretty easy to source.

    A/C Compressor Failure

I think your best bet is some sort of goodwill from BMW. You should also explore if any warranty left on the car battery.

Rex is toast... Any way to stop maintenance cycle?

I think a motorcycle repair shop that has experience with 650 scooters could determine the problem. But I understand your predicament, you could spend a lot of money and don't get a resolution.

    Oil change in REX

The REX in the i3 is more like an emergency generator than an engine in a car. It could sit unused for months or years at a time. If you look at user manual for any generator, they recommend oil changes every 6 or 12 months and 100 hours, whichever first. For full synthetic oil I think you can...

Rex is toast... Any way to stop maintenance cycle?

The REX could be still under warranty. Depends on which states the car is registered.

'What Car should I buy'. UK t.v program

It is cheaper to stuff more batteries in a car than a range extender. Manufacturers have moved on from REX due to cost and unfavorable regulation. It is not about what makes sense (a 6000 lbs SUV doesn't make sense), but what people think they want and what policies promote.

Any real limit to running REX?

There is no hard limit, but my personal opinion is that the REX works pretty hard in the i3. In its original purpose in the 650 scooter it has much easier life and can do high mileage. But in the i3 it is probably designed for something like 20 thousand miles. That is still plenty of use as a...

    i3s shocks on regular i3?

One of the issues with i3 suspension is lack of rear sway bar. There is no space for that. Still much more fun than 90% of EVs on the market, even after 10 years.

Explain the windshield tech please/golf ball damage

If it is their first time, I would ask them to watch a youtube video first. Just promise the tech some tip and ask him to watch the video, rather than trying to find out about i3 quirks on his own.

Explain the windshield tech please/golf ball damage

I doubt run of the mill dealership have people to change a windshield. They will probably source it out, similar to body shop/paint work. I remember in facebook group a year or so ago there was someone who mentioned windshield replacement company (I think it was safelit, but I am not sure)...

    Warning re Tesla chargers

Thanks for the heads up. I hope eventually they will fix the issue, but for now I would stick with CCS chargers.

BMW i3 among the most reliable cars in Germany

"the BMW i3 scored even better than the Model 3, with just 0.2 breakdowns per 1,000 vehicles for the 2020 model year and 0.8 for the previous model year." https://insideevs.com/news/667690/tesla-model-3-reliability-adac-index-2022/

Anyone found another tire that fits??

Nankang NA-1 is available in i3 sizes in Europe. I went to Nankang US site and asked them to make this tire available in US. Maybe if they get enough requests they will offer the tire here: https://nankangusa.com/

    Drive unit noise - My15 Rex 54k

If there is noise it is mechanical, shouldn't be the EME. It could be the infamous motor bearing in pre-facelift models.

    Standard sized tires...

Continental and Michelin make tires for i3, they sell them in Europe. For some reason they don't sell them in US. There is also a Chinese brand that sells i3 tires.

2014 BMWi3- bad cell-Any EV repair shops in San Diego

Is it REX or BEV? The REX has 10 year warranty for battery, so it could be still under warranty.

    Road Trip Experience

I believe i3 range in all iterations is too low to be a frequent road trip car. If you want to use it as a city car BEV is better, otherwise the REX is more viable. I have posted about my road trip experience before: https://www.mybmwi3.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17941

    Steering issues

This has happened a couple of time for both my i3s. Once you turn the car off and on again, it goes away and doesn't return for another year or so.
