Those who swapped in a 12V lithium - how are things going?

Since I've been shaking down my recently-installed BM2 monitor, I can report (as I think others will echo) that during DC-DC charging, the voltage jumps to 14.4V, falling off only slightly during these DC-DC charging sessions. So it seems spot-on for Li-ion, actually.

    12v battery monitor

    1) so if I buy a second BM2 and install it on another vehicle, how will it (or I) know which is being monitored? 2) why does the app keep nagging me to "turn on Bluetooth?" This is especially confusing because Bluetooth is already on when it's asking, and as I wrote earlier, it didn't need me...

    Solar panel on the roof

So do you seldom drive in the daytime? Otherwise...separate battery storage, then?

    12v battery monitor

I still don't know how it got my Bluetooth connection, but it did. In hindsight, it seems like anyone passing by could just as well have ended up connected. It's the opposite of my usual problem.

    12v battery monitor

Thanks Evi3 for taking the trouble to post the photos. I'll check out the date code - also need to get familiar with data reported by new BM2 monitor. I didn't suspect there was any problem with the battery coming into this, just wanted to be prepared for the inevitable. In your photo, the...

    12v battery monitor

Got this done after work yesterday. The only sketchy part of the process was the retightening of the + terminal (and the unexpectedly-large arcing, from each chance contact as I maneuvered it into place.) I actually removed that terminal again because it didn't seem that a safe level of torque...

    12v battery monitor

Just realized I've never paid a moment's attention to cigarette lighters...are those always-hot items? If so, then maybe I should get a cig lighter variant of the Bluetooth voltage monitor (that I presume exists): plug/play installation?

    12v battery monitor

I just got one of these Bluetooth monitors, and thinking I'd rather install it at some location more convenient than digging all the way in to the battery. Where can I find an always-hot and ground that are more easily accessed? (I take it these are strictly high-impedance voltage monitors...

Some interiour lights won't go off when closing the car.

Isn't there a less-cryptic signal of imminent 12V failure than this virtual reading of tea-leaves? I haven't gotten there yet, but would like to get a few days' warning if possible.

Carrying Cargo 'n Things with Our i3's...

Oh, please: tell me whether that's a stack of foam boards...vs... gypsum?! The shower alone is probably 200lbs! Either way, what's the rack? Edit: I *knew* this reminded me of something from the Early Days...too weird not to be true.

Carrying Cargo 'n Things with Our i3's...

Nate, I was once about to dive into a search for the SeaSuckers, but got skittish when someone pointed out the potential concern with..."unplanned detachment?"...exacerbated by the roof-clearcoat-blistering problem (which I've still not dealt with, since it's not getting visibly worse)...

    Hi Guys,

Go on about the "not as nice part." What are you less than thrilled with about the Ioniq? I love our i3, but the day will come when I need a somewhat larger EV that can more readily accommodate two kids AND a Costco run, for example. I've never owned another EV, but suspect I'd find a Leaf...

REx vs mountain - learning experience

I bought a VeePeak bluetooth OBD and got only far enough with it to discover two things: (1) no pay, no changes possible, and (2) it's annoyingly slow. I later read that the cable-connected type is faster, so I plan to swap it for a cable type (about half the price, too.) There's also the...

Annoying Things I Hate After 3 Weeks With My New i3 ReX

If you want your i3 to auto-assist you in a John Cleese impression, try this: when you find your low-tire-pressure alert goes off, mark that rear non-driver tire where the screw/nail/imaginary puncture is. You will need it rotated just so, in order to have straight-on access, to plug it with...

    "25.0mph?"

Thanks, all. Yes, of course that WAS it. My fingers don't expect any control there, apparently. I suspect on occasion when I'm getting into the car at 0dark:30 that something just short of supernatural happens. I gotta go look again, but I didn't notice a temperature option on scrolling...

    "25.0mph?"

Mid-left side of my driver's display for the past month or so, there's been this unchanging display of "25.0mph" next to a gauge-face icon. What did I do to bring this on? Prior to that, for equally-mysterious reasons, I had a very useful display in the same spot, showing (I'm a little hazy on...

My vehicle went up in flames

If there's one useful takeaway to this tale, it's this. Comp covers a host of crazy didn't-see-THAT-coming incidents, and it's cheap.

    online or other tech illustrations

I recently wanted to better understand the brake circuit in my i3, but more broadly would like access to typical service-manual illustrations and part-number IDs. Is there any online or other resource for this without actually paying a lot?

"low cost charging" option grayed out...?

Thanks frictioncircle - I just ordered a 30/240V timer-relay to avoid having to replace my EVSE (which I'll install adjacent to my load center & which will interrupt feed to 240V receptacle for the EVSE), but yes, it's time for me to give up on what sure seemed like it was a pre-engineered...

"low cost charging" option grayed out...?

Nate, I've been thinking about this a little more. Do you have knowledge (or an opinion...) as to whether my approach below would make sense? I get home daily at, say, 4PM (start work at oh-dark-thirty.) That schedule would give me just 1 hour of potential charge-time before the 5PM...
