Why Tesla is going to dominate for the next 5yrs

Having a Rex for 18 months has shown that a BEV with 125mi range would be suitable for about 95% of our local driving. The question is whether the additional range should be an ICE or a bigger battery? Either would get the job done, 200mi electric range is sufficient, but a range extended 125mi...

Why Tesla is going to dominate for the next 5yrs

No matter how wonderful a car the i3 is today and how great any i5 might be tomorrow, it will still be serviced and supported by BMW and not Tesla. BMWUSA have no control over their dealers and how they treat their customers and the customers have no way of knowing if their dealer is going to...

Do NOT Buy BMW i3 [From an Owner]

For those who don't know I have one of the early 2014's with the defective whooping Bridgestone tires. BMW admitted that my car made an unpleasant and loud noise when driven on smooth pavement and that it was getting louder as the tires racked up the miles. They also refused to do anything about...

Do NOT Buy BMW i3 [From an Owner]

The car is just fine... It is BMW and their dealers that are "horrible". Too bad you can't separate the two very easily, or at all. Blaming the victim only goes so far....... How were we to know that BMW would chose to support this car in a half-hearted manner? I certainly never expected that a...

Do NOT Buy BMW i3 [From an Owner]

I was wondering when Default Answer #1 would show up: blame the buyer for selecting the wrong car. Default Answer #1a is to blame the buyer for selecting the wrong dealer.

Does the i3 fob tolerate water?

One of mine went through the washer and dryer in my pants pocket with no damage a few months ago.

How many have had the drive train malfunction error?

Ours comes and goes...... Given my confidence in BMW we are avoiding them as much as possible: until it actually stops running we'll keep it away from the "service dep't". I am using the word service in the agricultural sense, as in: "The bull serviced the cow......" Thank god, it's a lease!

5 *months* to fix an i3. Normal?

Believe me when I say that I think exactly that every time I drive the car.... Hind sight is 20/20! Thank God, we leased!

5 *months* to fix an i3. Normal?

IMHO this is typical of BMW dealers. All they want is your signature on the contract, after that they really don't care much at all. Our 2014 had the whooping tires and it was a real battle to get our leasing dealer to do anything, after months of drama, they agreed at last to replace the...

    Has the buying stopped

I wish someone had told me how terrible my dealer was going to be too.......... Perhaps there really is a need to publish the unvarnished truth and to tell others that not everything is perfect in i3land......

Can the camera be used for an autopilot?

If you live in the EU, your i3 could self-steer in Active Cruise Control up to 25mph or so. If you live in NA it cannot. Same systems in the same car, different software. Perhaps this can be coded, but I doubt it.

Chevy Bolt begins production “in just a few short months”

The Bolt weighs 500lbs more than an i3, has 30 more hp, goes up to 200 miles, has front wheel drive, 4 real doors and costs at least $15k less than an i3. This is why I leased........

    Did I buy a lemon? (2014 Base i3)

Good i3 service is much more dealer dependent than the ICE or diesel cars, if your current dealer is not doing a satisfactory job, you need to find another. Are there two competing BMW dealers in Las Vegas? If so, take the car to the other one.......

Experience with repair of curbed Tera world front wheel?

You live in New Hampshire not a Mega-City. How would you know, do you visit the city once in a while? We live in the close-in suburbs and go to downtown LA all the time, our i3 lives in the mega-city this car was designed for. And this is what we know about i3 wheels: If you use the BMW...

Does anyone regret getting an i3?

I have a 3 year lease and I got $4500 of the $7500 tax incentive. I was told that since BMW got the full tax credit when they made a lease they were passing it along minus their tax liability. I don't think it applies to a 1 year lease. If you do your homework on range/temperature and you...

Experience with repair of curbed Tera world front wheel?

Isn't it clever how BMW have designed the car so that the rim contacts the curb before the tire? Programming the self-parking to use the rim as a curb feeler is what really makes it the Ultimate Driving Machine IMHO though..... ;)

    Body repair

I don't want to pop your bubble (Yes, I do ;) ), but the i3 does not have a unibody.
