5 *months* to fix an i3. Normal?

I am assuming that they didn't want their car totaled since they put 15,000 down on the lease. In the case of a total loss, that money is gone, correct?

    How does the REx work?

I believe the Volt engine can either generate for the battery or couple to the drivetrain depending on conditions. The big difference is that the i3 is designed to be electric only with the engine as a "range extender" for backup purposes. I believe most i3 Range Extender users rarely use the...

Errant passenger seatbelt warning going off

It is super sensitive. A backpack = alarm. An ipad = alarm. A pizza = alarm. My other cars seemed to have some weight sensitivity regarding this chime. It is annoying. I end up having to click in the seatbelt if whatever I am carrying needs to sit there.

    Snow?

I very much agree! The past post implied that somebody was replacing the Blizzaks after one season. I would at least wait until the Blizzaks need replacement.

    Snow?

The BMW winter package with the Blizzaks are hard to beat price wise as it includes TPMS, wheesl, and tires. I just used the Blizzaks and had no difficulty in snow and moderate ice conditions. I don't have the Nokians for comparison, but I certainly wouldn't toss out a new set of Blizzaks for...

    snow driving

The accessory is listed on several sites. Perhaps they are imported from foreign markets? https://www.ecstuning.com/Search/Snow/ES2832961/ http://parts.bmwnorthwest.com/p/BMW__/Snow-chains-BMW-Comfort/61130129/36112344236.html?partner=googlebase_adwords&kwd=&origin=pla

    snow driving

Just had my first test of snow and ice with the winter package. The i3 handled it very well! It easily traversed a tricky area that caused a mail truck to spin out. It won't handle sheets of solid ice, but nothing really will. Does anybody have experience with the available chains?

    Wholesale prices

I'm just curious. Does your state charge property tax on the full value of a leased vehicle? Isn't that like paying property tax on the full value of a leased property?

DIY: Highbeam Headlamp Replacement / Upgrade

I have been trying these out, but haven't been in pitch black conditions yet. I definitely prefer the new LED setup. The OEM lamps tend to fade out at the margins. In addition to matching the color scheme of the headlights, the entire field has a very nice uniform field. I do feel that the...

DIY: Highbeam Headlamp Replacement / Upgrade

I ordered and installed the lights on Amazon. They do fit and work fine. I have bought LED lights to replace rear lights and turn signals in the past. I have been disappointed by build quality with loose connections and shoddy materials. These lights are built really well. The connections are...

    Ordered Winter Tires

I just installed my winter wheel and tire set this weekend. I ordered them online. Sadly, they did really jack up the prices this summer. I ended up paying just over $1700 shipped for the BMW/Blizzak set. The tires are more noisy compared to the 20" set I have, but the ride is softer and more...

    snow tires for i3

Hi, I found a great deal on a set of four at my local dealer, but did find out that all area dealers did not stock them. They are being shipped from Germany and are 6 weeks out. If you are considering them, you might want to call around if you want them by winter. Good Luck!

Mounting winter tires & what color?

Hi, I believe if you look around, you can get a set of OE"M 19" 427s with the Bridgestone winters and the TPMS sensors for cheaper than the tire rack package. Is your dealer charging $200 to install the already mounted tires or are they balancing/mounting the tires on the rims for that price...

how many with zero i3 problems?

I think this forum is slightly different than your standard initial quality rating. My i3 failed due to a software malfunction that drained the 12V battery under a particular set of conditions. This was resolved with a software update. Even thought my i3 has been otherwise problem free, I think...

    Seat belt twisting issue

Hi, I have had my i3 for close to 4 months. One thing I noticed right away is that the seat belt was never in the proper orientation. I eventually brought it in to the dealer and they found that it was not properly installed at the factory.(backwards) Everything was aligned and appropriate...

    charging noise

This noise is certainly different than the REX starting up. It is a whirring fan type noise and I have noticed it since higher temps have started in the summer. I have been fairly impressed with the lack of knowledge of "igeniuses".

Two Year Lease Deals From BMW - Why?!

My lease monthly payment would actually go up if I chose a term past 24 months. This is very unusual and I think a product of the steep discount of MSRP and the residual difference between the two terms. One thing worth considering is that leasing companies often allow you to continue "month to...

    Possible major failure.

No. There was no warning before vehicle failure. The only unusual activity I had was parking it for 4 days prior.

    Possible major failure.

Here are the details from my service sheet: Performed energy diagnosis test plan, 12V battery had dropped to 32% charge. Referenced SI B61 39 14. Programmed and encoded complete vehicle to I-Level I001-15-07-501.

    Possible major failure.

Hi, I am back and running. Apparently, there was a recent software update to address this issue. The 12V battery was depleted. I can post the details and version of the software if anybody is interested. I would recommend that everybody call their dealer and check up on this.
