Short is instant, medium I count to 3, long I count to 10. Actually I don't count anymore, but I did count to train myself to know how long to hold the buttons for. I would recommend you using trial and error, my count to 3 might be your count to 5, there is also a range, mine will medium press anywhere between a 2 count and a 7 count, long press works 8 or longer.
