My 2019 UK i3 120ah has 2 options;

- the button on the roof behind the rear-view mirror, for emergencies/ accidents
- the service contacted thru on-board computer, for breakdowns, out-of-fuel etc.

Are these call-outs both free or at what cost please?

Are they reliable eg what sort of wait time could be expected - urban v rural?

I asked my BMW main dealer but they didn't know!

Thanks for any advice.

It depends...

In the USA, that cellular connection is active for a time after purchase new, but if you don't renew it after it expires, it doesn't work as far as I know.

The system connects to BMW sourced operators. They can contact emergency services for you, if required, but it is not directly to them. This MIGHT vary based on the country in which it is sold. It can call automatically, and that is based on whether the air bags deploy - if, your subscription is still valid. Unlike a cellphone where it will still contact emergency services without an active contract, your cellular connection in the i3 is to BMW, not to (in the USA) the 911 emergency network operator.
