I primarily registered in this forum to let you guys now, to hopefully spread the word, that it is possible to activate the engine above the ~6.5% SOC that USA Rex i3's are stuck with. I'm not sure if it can be automated easily with scripting or something, (I didn't discover the hack) but it is achievable. the Facebook "BMW i3" closed group (you can try to join, you'll probably get in) has the info

Also, and I can't say that it's 100% verified yet, but somebody says that USA Rex actually has a 2.4 gallon tank, not 1.9g, it's just software that limits how empty the tank can get.

If someone can actually change the UI to easily configure this, that would be awesome but for now I think what they are doing is CANbus hacking with something plugged into the OBD2 port. Might be do-able on a regular basis but not sure.

The software changes can probably be reversed (and may need to be redone on every 'reboot' to keep the hack), don't know if there is a trail. Good to know for when the warranty expires, mod away!

What a great way to void the warranty!
Please stop spreading false rumor. Coding bigger tank will not void your warranty. Not to mention it's fully reversible, you can recode factory settings back whenever you want.
