In this Euro NCAP crash-test video, it’s the relative minimal flex in the roof frame, compared to a traditional steel cage, that is remarkable. Seeing this video helps assuage my fears of injury while sitting in a tub of high-tech CFRP, a material that BMW trumpets as never having been used in a mass-produced vehicle.
And the videos are further proof that side-impact airbags are an extraordinary invention in all cars, not only BMWs. That head protection bag absolutely saves lives.
Look forward to seeing how the i3 rates in U.S. crash testing.
