Six months after placing an unofficial deposit with my dealer my Solar Orange BEV has finally arrived today. My wife drove about 5 miles in it and couldn't believe how fast it was, she felt that the acceleration was much quicker than her Mercedes E350cdi. I will spend the next few weeks getting to know the car and will send details to Tom to include in his new owner blog. The buying experience from Nigel and team from Specialist Cars in Stevenage has been first class and I would recommend them to anyone thinking of buying in Herefordshire or North London.

Congratulations David! That the colour I wish I'd gone for - although it sounds like orange is going to be common as muck, so maybe old man beige is the right way to go after all! :D

I guess it depends on where you live as my dealership hasn't taken any other orange orders.

Hi David, I'm collecting my Solar Orange from Nigel early next week :D

Cheers
Chris
Chris, Nigel mentioned that he was pleased that your car had made it to the UK - he must have forgotten that it is also an Orange one!

Nice colour scheme! reminds me of my 1979 Fiat 127 Sport in Arrancio Racing !

Funny you should mention this. One of the reasons I went for Solar Orange is that it reminded me of my first ever car which I loved before it was eaten alive by rust - a 1976 Alfasud

Maybe just a little bit... :) Oh well, when I'm driving, I can't see what colour it is!

Hi David,

aah, the 'Sud. You have your car-heart in the right place sir! How could a car that good be so bad? Oh, the cruelty against car enthusiasts in the 70-80's :)
Luckily not much chance of your new orange turning brown. It looks very good!

Gongrats! Steven

Looks like I'll be collecting the new addition to the family tomorrow :)

in preparation I've been busy getting the the creche ready.

After :

I'll post further pics when I have them.

Finally :)

The weather was atrocious but it was still a great drive home regardless. Wasn't that bothered about preserving KWH on the way home, the performance is blistering from zero mph. The future has arrived, and it's Orange :)

Chris.

Chris, the car looks great, same colour and wheels as mine, I'm sure this will be a popular combo. Enjoy it.

One observation that may help others, you have installed the charger in the same position as us, which allows the car to be charged whether driven or reversed in to the garage. The only downside is the cable will run across the drivers door if you drive in.

Congrats Chris, I think that's the first UK REx delivery that I've seen.

Congratuliations Chris! It seems you are not only the first UK REx driver here but could be (one of) the first overall. Haven't read many other posts about REx deliveries. I read one on a German forum, but that posting didn't show any photos and wasn't followed up....
So... is it, besides very orange ;) , good ?

Regards, Steven

I've had a little time to play around in the last 24 hours and have the following observations to make. However, I think the coming week, will allow me to form a more accurate appraisal of the REX. Anyway, here goes.

1 - I deliberately drove home from the dealer with the charge hold set at 75%. This worked exactly as desired, and I arrived home after about 40 miles with approx 60 miles of EV motoring available.

2 - the sound of the REX motor inside the car is incredibly well muted. Unless you deliberately listen out for the noise, it's difficult to know the REX is engaged. The same cannot be said outside the car. It does sound like an angry wasp. But it's worth remembering that the benefit of charge hold, means that you can use the REX when cruising along A roads and motorways, then turn it off when you want to roam peacefully around B roads and town centres on pure EV.

3 - I'm still getting to grips with the idrive system, but boy, does it seem comprehensive. I've set the car to be pre conditioned to leave tomorrow morning at 6 am, ready for the cruise to work. I'll report back later as to the success of this :). I still don't have any details for logging on to the app, but I assume this will arrive shortly.

4 - The build quality is much better than the pre-release demonstrators, it feels very solid, and there isn't a squeak or creak to be heard.

5 - My BMW charge box, seems to clunk a bit as if some massive solanoid's are switching. I'll continue to monitor it over the coming days and weeks, but hopefully this is nothing to worry about.

6 - If you're not bothered about 'conserving energy' this car goes like stink :). It's disconcerting how fast you can be going without a second thought, thanks in large to the lack of a noisy engine revving to give you some sense of the pace you are making.

Any questions, feel free to ask.

Chris.
