I bought a used 2015 BMW i3 REx, now with 36,000 miles of moderate driving by me. The rear tires need to be replaced due to excessive wear on the outside edge of each. Middle grooves of the rear tires are still OK but worn.
Is this a common issue ? Is this bad rear end alignment ? Or any...
I first had the high end 3M tint applied, but it was not enough for New Orleans summers parked outside. So I had my roof painted (NOT wrapped which only lasts a few years) BMW White to match my car.
The white roof reduced inside temperatures significantly better that the window tint AND the car...
The roof is carbon fiber with a clear coat on top. I chose a body shop with carbon fiber experience.
The rear spoiler and frunk are, I believe, thermoplastic with the color all the way through the part. I did not inquire about painting them.
I do like the black & white balance better now with...
If you check out the link to the photos, you can see that the frunk/hood and rear spoiler are still black. I painted just the carbon fiber roof, not the thermoplastic parts.
I had it painted at a high end shop with experience painting carbon fiber. I paid $400 green cash & agreed to come during a slow period (normal price $600/$650).
They recommend keeping it waxed (after waiting a month to cure). Wax protects the paint and increases reflection (see photo from...
Vinyl wraps cost more and last only 5 or so years on horizontal surfaces.
I will NOT change my mind - I think the black carbon fiber roof is both quite stupid and ugly,
Does anyone have any experience in painting their i3 roof white ? Snow white should reflect about 85% of the heat from sunlight (much better than black). I would chose the white that matches the factory white though. There appears to be a clear coat over the carbon fiber roof. Is this a normal...
Perhaps using the front bumper opening to screw on an eye for towing - or a front license plate ? Just one fog lamp would help on foggy mornings.
I live in a state that does not require a front license plate.
Thanks
I bought a used 2015 i3 REx a few months ago (just $19,400 with 17,999 miles with Giga trim). I have a decent set of tools, except Torx. I typically do most of my own work,
What size Torx does BMW use ? Any E sockets (Torx shaped male bolt heads) needed ? How many bolts and screws are torqued...
Did BMW install a magnetic oil drain plug as OEM ?
If not, does the REx use a 12 mm oil drain plug like every other BMW car since 2002 - or the 16 mm plug that comes with all other 650 cc engines (on BMW motorcycles) (per my understanding).
Recently bought a used 2015 i3 REx Giga with 17,999...
I have bought a used 2015 BMW i3 REx Giga in Texas and I am awaiting delivery.
I live in New Orleans and I will be driving just a few thousand miles/year (replacing my 1982 MB 240D 4 speed with manual window winders - the rubber is deteriorating). The REx is for hurricane evacuation. I hope to...
Remove heat pump and go with REx resistance heat for cabin.
Put in air cooled supplemental batteries (like Leaf and as opposed to water cooled 24 kWh standard batteries) in space where Rex (or heat pump) sits.
Air cooling will reduce both weight and cost and is "workable" for supplemental...
