In my opinion the better alternative is a BEV - I have a Rex because of the very low batter range of the i3. I'm not likely to keep my i3 past the warranty. Currently the Model 3 looks to me like the best option. My wife has been driving a Model 3 since August and is so far very satisfied. I've...
My 2014 Rex had an "engine malfunction" if I'm remembering the error message correctly. Fortunately I was only 2 years into my warranty. Interesting part of the story however, is that I replaced it with a demo 2016 with 200 km's after 6 weeks of BMW attempting to repair the 2014. I did have to...
After one press you should see a message such as "ready to refuel". When this message appears the exterior flap is normally ready to open.
I say "normally" because this is a system that has failed many times on my cars (I've been driving an i3 since 2014 - I currently have a 2016). I've had...
I haven't had access (Toronto) since March 26. Unacceptable. My wife's shopping for an EV - his experience has knocked BMW off the list. We've spoken with a few Tesla owners - none have experienced issues with their apps.
Is anyone able to use i3Remote access on an android yet?? I still see only "unknown error has occurred. Please try to login again."
Amazing - 1 month and no BMW fix/no explanation!
Thanks for the comments - and confirmation others have lost remote access.
Two weeks and i3 Remote is still not working. I sent an email to GM at dealership suggesting that supporting technology is important for EV ownership (i.e. SOC monitoring while charging away from home (not all chargers...
Anyone in Canada experiencing problems with remote access? I've been unable to remotely monitor SOC since March 26'th. BMW Canada is unresponsive - I've only been told it is a problem for android phones. No idea when or if there will be a resolution.
Hello Derek - I frequently make the 220km drive to my cottage with my 2014 i3 Rex (though not weekly). While I often hear the car referred to as a city car - I believe the Rex is well suited to the type of use you're planning for. Longer trips, however, requiring frequent fuelling stops I would...
Hello - a quick update on my repair experience. Took my 2014 i3 in on March 29'th for vent line recall. As it happens - I had a "drivetrain malfunction" warning a couple days before my appointment. Service department informed me that the Rex needed major repairs - they ordered the parts and let...
Welcome! I sold my 2004 Prius 3 years ago and bought a 2014 i3 Rex. The i3 is a fantastic car - although more recall issues than experienced with my Prius back in 2004 (even though it was the first year for that model). I don't know if this is the best site to share i3 issues - I look forward to...
It took 1 week to for the part to arrive (Toronto). Unfortunately my 2014 i3Rex had a "drive train malfunction" while waiting. I expect to be without my car for about a week (unrelated I believe). I too am not impressed with the fuel economy of the loaner (X1)!
Yes awesome car - I'm coming up on 2 years (June 2015) with just over 33,000 km's.
Would definitely replace it with another i3 - will also strongly consider an i5 for wife (once we know something about it).
I'm fortunate to have a BMW i dealer (Brampton) open closer to my home recently.
Yes - SOC is displayed below speed on my Canadian model - as is estimated remaining kilometres. I don't think it's possible to turn it off - never tried - can't imagine not wanting it there.
I will reach 20,000 this week in Canada - had a minor issue with fuel pressure gage. Long drive to dealership made this a bigger issue. Used about 16 litres of gas - forced myself to do this to run motor periodically. Would love to power it via PV panels some day!
