Here in Chicago we had some -10F days. Estimated range was 45 miles but with full preconditioning and ecopro+ I got 65 miles estimated (50 miles remaining after driving 15 miles).
So far I've had zero range issues in cold weather and my summer range is well beyond spec but I drive city streets...
Finally found a link discussing this issue: https://insideevs.com/bmw-i3-charge-port-snow-cover/
Also appears there isn't a dedicated i3 solution so thinking I may just start fabricating a silicone cover for myself.
So I haven't owned a car in over 7 years and my i3 bought in May 2017 was my first car in that time. This is my first Chicago winter driving in over 7 years.
Car with all season tires has been amazing -- I definitely will do winter wheels and tires next season.
Today I woke up to my car at...
Took the highway today instead of the side roads to see what I see.
Consumption: 2.8 mi/kWh (I did NOT precondition)
Recuperation: 62.1 mi/kWh
Efficiency: 45%
I didn't attempt to manage efficiency at all, but I will try next week to see what I can do to get that number up.
Aha! Makes sense to me.
I rarely break 35 mph in my i3. 5.0mi/kwh is low, I usually get 6+ in warmer weather. Lots of stop signs I coast up to.
Thanks for the reply!
My iOS app updated recently and forced me to sign back in.
In the app now, under status, it shows “Efficiency: 50%” and I don’t recognize this measurement from the Android app I used since May. Maybe it’s alaYs been on the iOS app but today is the first day I noticed.
2015 REX, cold weather...
I'm in Illinois and doing some measurements myself to try to figure out what solar option to throw on the garage roof to help keep my i3 topped off.
I also considered the Tesla 3 but after test driving the P85 and the i3, the i3 was a no-brainer for me. Since my maximum drive distance is only...
Actually haven't broken 47mph yet lol. All my routes are optimized for distance first and time second. The fastest routes are 40% longer by highway but only a minute or two.
Going to try my first long haul which lucky for me has DC chargers at each end practically so I'm interested in seeing...
Probably true but I also drive like an old man (averaging 6.2miles/kWh right now) and I also don't put many miles on the car (average trip is under 7 miles, longest trip is 12 miles). Will be interesting to see how long those things last me.
I'm actually going to order a "spare" wheel and tire but NOT lug it around. I'll just keep it in the garage in a sealed bag. That way, if I get a flat, instead of waiting for a local dealership to order a tire it's just a matter of sending someone to my house to snag the tire for me while I am...
The math becomes more difficult when you consider any free charges that occur. I bought a CPOE 2015 i3 and got my one year of free EVGO charges but the 2 DC chargers near me don't even request a card to charge up in 20 minutes or so.
In fact, since I bought my car 2 weeks ago, I have put a...
My ACC does a fast 2 second hard brake every time I approach the same paint cross walk on a street I drive on regularly. Once the car approaches the cross walk the car realizes it isn't another vehicle and then takes off back to 45 mph.
Without lidar I doubt the car could manage autonomous...
