    Explosive Li-ion Energy Storage Accident

Hello all not sure if this is redundant however here is some good reading on the potential dangers of Lithium-Ion. The injuries of the four firefighters are testimonial of this event. While of course this is a different application, it exemplifies there is always potential danger with lithium...

    Charge Percentage

Lithium cells still have upper and lower protection buffers at “absolute” full and low charge. Therefore, even if they were to reach this state, these buffers built into the cell to further protect it. It’s important to note, just because a pack is charged to 90-100% on occasion or even often...

    Charge Percentage

Thanks for the reply however even at full charge there is sufficient high end buffer on the I-3 for regen when at full SOC. So everyone understands it does not damage the health of a lithium battery to charge it to 100% on occasion. I would highly suspect that BMW has a regen level at some point...

    Charge Percentage

This statement is not totally correct. On the 2019 120 I-3 it regens at full SOC without the use of brakes. According to the information I received, regen at full charge will still occur by adding charge to the batteries upper buffer on the battery for a period of time. Stay Safe- Mike

    New member, charging question.

Major mistake with BMW only allowing the owner to use 1200 watts to charge. with the larger packs it can take days to charge. While the 1200 watts was acceptable with the first pack - its deficient with the last two upgrades. Minimum for any EV 110 v charger should be at least 1500 watts or...

    Charging while driving

As you already know there is almost no benefit - just mount the panel for show and leave the wiring alone to prevent problems. REgards

    No heat on in BEV

It appears as if the I3 with an RX is lacking when it comes to cold weather use. GM uses a cold weather protocol for additional battery and cabin heat. It would seem logical the i3 RX could be activated during cold weather and the coolant used in a heat exchanger to heat the battery and cabin...

Alternative I3 Charging on Lithium RV System

Hello I3 Owners - Here's an image of my alternate charging method when I need to add a few miles to my i3’s pack when traveling off the power grid. I recently upgraded this RV from flooded batteries to a state of the art 8 kw Lithionics lithium power system capable of even running the roof top...

BMW CEO - i3 Will Continue to Be Built

For all us owners - i hope this new guy at BMW is not just telling us all what we want to hear. BMW has a track record of not being honest, such as when they advertised the I8 would get 36 miles of range and we only got 12-18 miles. I think what will save the I3 is the fact people are now...

Mini EV will kill used i3 prices

For the most part - BMW I3's have always suffered from poor resale value, therefore I feel the competition is not going to change our market value. The BMW I3 like the Mini and others is a Cult market which has little cross over. When I sold my 2014 I3 in 15 I took a major beating on the car...

2019 REX gas tank capacity coding needed?

Actually your right you can get 80 miles from a tank! Generally speaking the gauge does show a bit low from what you'll actually get. While the mileage is calculated math from the processor - how your driving does not have a whole lot to do with it because the engine runs at a some what fixed...

Steering assistance turned off today very heavy

You just made a mistake - You really need the stiff center on the steering on the I3 because due to the steering system tall height and narrow tires the I3 is over sensitive at center at high speeds. In fact I sold my old 2015 I bought for my wife for that reason. Newer cars now have a tight...

    Steering issues

I sold my 2015 I3 for that exact reason after a dog ran out on at 60 mph. I just bought a new 2019 and BMW did rectify the steering problem. Wheel center now has a distinct hard center position which takes some effort to overcome which really helps to prevent unwanted steering inputs. For the...
