    New to the i3

Congratulations - that sounds great! I would definitely program the HSOC - it make the car so much more useful when you can take it to a neighboring town and only have to use the engine on the highway. I always feel silly when I end up driving around town sounding like I'm in a golf cart!

2014 REx Fuel Tank coding...how do I know it worked?

As I recall the process, when you code the car for HSOC, your fuel tank will change from using 1.9 gallons to 2.1. I believe there is a way to get into the advanced menu and increase it further to 2.4 gallons, but I haven't tried that in my 2015 REX. John Francis Rolla, MO

    Hello BMW i3

Congratulations! Let us know if you have any problems. I drove a 2014 REX (coded for HSOC) for three years until a kid in a minivan ran a red light and t-boned me. Thankfully, I wasn't hurt, but the car was totalled. In an amazing coincidence, what I got from insurance was almost exactly the...

    Highest Mileage i3/REX?

The "proper" procedure is to push the button to vent the vapors, then push on the end of the fuel flap to get it to spring open. John O'Malvern is correct though - there is an issue with the fuel pressure regulator. If it fails, it will not allow you to open the fuel filler flap until it is...

    Highest Mileage i3/REX?

Pressing the fuel filler button in the driver footwell only vents the fuel vapors to the cannister. You still have to push on the edge of the fuel filler flap to unhook it and have it spring open. Miy 2015 REX often takes more than one push to unhook.

    Considering a 2014 i3 for delivery

I bought three of my last four cars sight unseen, including my first i3, also a 2014. Yes, it is a risk, but so far I've been lucky, I guess. To address your more specific questions, the original plastic motor mounts have undoubtedly been changed on that car by now, but it would be worth...

Can I charge my i3 always on DC up to 80%?

FWIW, I've always trusted my 2015 REX's BMS (Battery Management System) to take care of the battery, and regularly charge to 100% on my level two wallbox. Whenever I do DC charging, it's usually just to 80%, mostly because the charge rate slows down so much after that, and 80% gets me home from...

    Android Auto

There are a few chinese units for sale that will work with the car's electronics to give you wireless Android Auto and Car Play funcionality. I have one from RoadTop. They're not cheap - I paid around $300 for mine a few years ago for installation in my 2015 i3 Rex. The installation is...

    Are REX problems worth it?

JohnnyCakes hit the nail on the head - people don't write in to forums like this unless they have problems, so we rarely hear from the thousands of happy REX users like me. I think it really depends on your typical use case. I've often thought I'd be happy with a BEV if I could have 150 mile...

Refinished my Tera Eucalyptus wood today.

Very pretty! Does it reflect on the inside of the windshield? How about the little piece on the far left of the dash - did you do it as well? John Francis Rolla, MO

First time buying EV. Need advice on buying used REX.

I may be wrong here, but I THINK the gas tank in the REX holds pressure in order to keep the gas fresher longer, since in many cars it won't be used regularly. When you put fuel in it, there is a button you need to push and hold until the dashboard tells you it's ready to fuel. If that sensor...

First time buying EV. Need advice on buying used REX.

It sounds like you have an ideal use case for an electric car, and the i3 with the larger battery would be perfect for you. You may have some people writing in here dissing the REX, but in my experience the REX has been great - as long as you have gas in the tank you can always get home, and...

What can you do about the REX NOISE???

My advice is to make sure you have Hold State of Charge activated, if you haven't already. That way you can choose when you're going to use the REX and when to drive in normal stealth mode. John Francis Rolla, MO

    Do modifications void warranty?

Are you talking about your 8-year battery warranty? I don't have a definitive answer for you, but I take my 2015 i3 REX to the dealer annually for its maintenance, and they've never commented on the HSOC, and I did have some minor warranty work done on it once. HSOC makes the car so much more...
