Drivetrain Fault, loud fan and power reduction

I did a diagnostic after a new drivetrain error appeared causing reduced power output. I have errors saying that there is a communication fault with the coolant pump and there's an internal fault in the AC compressor. Some have suggested that I need to replace the coolant pump but I think the...

Huge system failure after charging on 2013 range extender

I have monitored the voltage with the car off and as I said, it rests around 12.4 and goes to 14.9 when the car is switched on. I am measuring at the battery terminals. To start the DC converter on the 2013 model you have to charge the car or press the start button.

Huge system failure after charging on 2013 range extender

The 12v battery is totally fine, it sits at around 12.4v when the car is off. When the car is on, it rises to 14.8v. I've never had any error messages to do with the battery. I also tried disconnecting it to see if the error would clear but that hasn't worked. I have ordered an ethernet OBD...

Huge system failure after charging on 2013 range extender

Today when I took the car off charge at a public charging point, every error imaginable came up. The power steering has stopped working, and there are the following warnings: Driver restraint malfunction, stability control failure, drivetrain no restart, slope too steep for park and gearbox P no...

    12v system reaching 15.4v

Can anyone else offer any help on this? I have heard of people running power inverters from the car without issue but they never said how they did it.

    12v system reaching 15.4v

I am not charging the 12v battery, I am trying to use the output from the DC converter to power my electric bike charger.

    12v system reaching 15.4v

I am trying to find a point in the car where I can take upwards of 40 amps from the 12v system. I removed the back cover in the boot which covers the motor and attached my lipo battery charger to the 12v points which are on top of the motor inverter. The more current my battery charger took from...

    Some data on capacity loss.

Hello all, I have a 2013 I3 with range extender and when I got it in 2015, it had 18.2 kwh available when I checked in the service menu. As time goes on this value varies quite a bit but always follows a downwards trend. When it reached around 16kwh one year, I reported it to BMW and after they...

    Possible overheat

I repeated the test again today and noticed that the temperature reading increased from 86 celsius to about 95 after the engine was switched off. Strange.

    Possible overheat

I was using the range extender the other day there to burn off some of the old fuel that had been sitting for about 5 months. I was doing 70mph constantly along a dual carriageway. The engine wasn't quite able to keep up as the battery charge was still going down slightly. The coolant...

    Lost a whole KWh

Good advice. I try to avoid fully charging and discharging by charging the car at night on the lowest power setting which is 1300 watts. It isn't fully charged by morning and I also charge for 30 minutes after my journey to work in order to keep the battery as close to 50% as possible. Another...

    Lost a whole KWh

This morning I got a puncture. The tire seal didn't work and it got taken to Edinburgh for repair. I spoke to them about the battery issue and they say a software update will be performed to correct the problem and restore range to 90 miles. They offered me a 3 series and I said no danger and...

    Lost a whole KWh

I am currently charging it fully and will discharge close to the engine coming on. I will update when done.
