BMW UK i3 REx without plugging in?

Who says its not allowed? Threre's a few people on speak EV forum who've stuck an EVSE pod at the edge of their property and then use an anti trip mat to stick the cable under while charging. It's debatable whether its legal and you won't get grant funding at all, but at least you can fully...

BMW UK i3 REx without plugging in?

You do realise with those dirty fossil fuels that an i3 powere by just coal fired electricity is still lower on CO2 in the life cycle than a diesel / petrol powered car. At 800g/kWh for coal (which includes for minining, trasnportation and not just the burning) i3 gets about 4 miles per kWh...

how many with zero i3 problems?

Similar here. 15,000 miles sicne Jan. No serious problems. Things maybe worth mentioning are: 1) Chipped the windscreen in May, which lead to a crack. Been waiting months for a large company that deals with windscreen replacements to get it sorted. 1st one failed QC the day it was due to be...

    I think I hate my i3 Rex...

Things are getting even better. Today... Full charge with precon and full REX this morning. 96 on the REX and 84 on Battery. Got to work after doing 43 miles and it said 70 on the REX and 22 on battery. Despite not using any fuel :( Charge to 100% at work 43 miles back home and it said 105...

Use of bmw for longer journeys

You can rent a Corsa for £19 per day. IF you need one. That's better than joining the BMW progamme and paying out for something you might use. And if you do it costs a lot more than the equivalent of a Corsa. About £100 a day for a 3 seires IIRC. Plus Having to drive a Corsa will make you want...

    REx Gas Usage

That's a great tip. I had been slowing down to let the REX catch up with the set point before pitting in for fuel. Now I can drive fast every where  Does it let you open the fuel door whilst still in "ready to drive" though? That's a bit silly if they forgot to prevent that.

    I think I hate my i3 Rex...

Now the weather has got above 15 degrees C, my range in EcoPro+ is showing just over 80 on battery plus just over 80 from the REX. Take off a little bit for the US tank size and "upto" 150 miles is certainly achievable. If you drive in Comfort with the heating on and do 75 on the motorway you'll...

    first time refueling attempt details

That's great if you local airport has plug sockets for everyone who turns up and don't mind hogging them for 2 weeks meaning no one else can get a charge. Otherwise I'd stick with a full charge and leave it till you get back. I guess you were thinking of at home... but then how would you get to...

    How often to recharge?

A rough workaround to this is set the time to use off peak charging - and tell it off peak starts a hour before you leave. On a 7kW charger - you'll get about 7kWh in 1 hours charging ;-) Personally at the weekend I don't bother plugging in as I only do about 50 miles here and there, but...

BMW R&D Boss - "...very hard to replace the batteries..."

So why would it be any different with a EV? Because in an i3 a set of battery cells is held in a frame that can be dropped by removing a few bolts, lowered onto a dolly, and then taken to one side where its quite easy to replace lithium ion battery cells with whatever tech happens to come along...

    Electric Cars Value Tumble (WSJ)

Resale is only of interest if you plan to sell. I'm expecting to get about 2 to 3k for mine. IF i don't give it to my son who will be 17 in 8 years time.

LET'S BUILD THE CALIFORNIA WEST COAST ELECTRIC HIGHWAY

Lol that's true. I'm right in the middle of the country, near Birmingham and the only direction i can drive 200 miles without needing an i3 that floats and has an outboard is North up towards Scotland. I can just about stretch 200 if I go southwest into the far end of Cornwall.

LET'S BUILD THE CALIFORNIA WEST COAST ELECTRIC HIGHWAY

There shouldn't be any argument on this. You need to do both. I just had a look on google maps. With 50miles beyween the 2, if you turn off I5 top visit someone who lives along the 99 then you'll need another charge as you get there. Remeber your working on 80% of battery after the 1st so of...

    a bit weird....BEV charging

I always run the battery down to the REX kick in point as my commute is long, so I've got used to the bug of it going and charging all the way when I plug in. My workaround is to set a 30 minute timer on my phone clock, just to remind me to do the next step... use the iRemote to resend the...

    first time refueling attempt details

The i3 has a 22kWh battery but BMW reserve the top and bottom so you only get to use 18.8kWh. This is to extend the battery life and stop you overcharging / undercharging. LiIon batteries last longer when NOT left fully charged or discharged for long periods. The one tip - is if you are...

LET'S BUILD THE CALIFORNIA WEST COAST ELECTRIC HIGHWAY

A good comparison for you – we’re close enough in numbers to get some officials to realise how far they are behind… UK population 64 million, land area 94,000 square miles Electric Highway as tweeted today has 445 Rapid Chargers active: 211 Chademo 50kW, 164 AC 43kW, and 70 CCS 50kW. Note...

    DC Fast Charger

No. Not something you can go in and pay for an upgrade. In theory you could get all the parts and pay for the hours to have the work done, but it would be cheaper to get a model with it on to start with. I think they should have all been shipped with it to start with or they are limited to short...

LET'S BUILD THE CALIFORNIA WEST COAST ELECTRIC HIGHWAY

Hi Tony, Sorry to hijack the thread but do you have any plans to bring out an AC > CCS unit? Over here in the UK there's hundreds of dual 3 phase AC/Chademo units but only a handful of CCS. We additionally have a lot of 22kW AC chargers especially on the continent. Likewise 440V 3phase AC is...

    Newbie

I've done 3,600 miles in 2 nearly months 67% electric the rest on REX (obviously). BUY! BUY! BUY! Yummy. This is the car you are looking for. My first day was 150 miles. And every day I'm commuting 120. Have done a 160 mile trip to visit friend with no charging. I am in the UK - so we get to...

    REx Gas Usage

Time to take a road trip? I dare ya! Make sure while doing it you run the battery to empty to get over the fear of what happens. Just don't do it whilst climbing a mountain ;-) Ideally about 5 miles before you know you'll be stopping for a charge. The only down side is unless you have it coded...
