myBMW App Works, But Not Showing Charge / Charging Status...

I talked to someone at BMW Connected Drive support. She said they are working on an issue with the App updating.

Potenza S001 tires instead of Ecopia EP500?

I was thrilled to see this thread. I've always been disappointed with the skinny tires that came with the car and looked forward to replacing them with some with a larger footprint, but wanted to hear from other owners. I've just ordered the Portenza S001 195/50 R20's for my 2015 i3...

    Has anybody tried wider tires?

Oops, I didn't look at the size of the front tires and see they were even more narrow. My thought was to up the width a couple sizes, so rear 175=> 195 and front 155=> 175. Well, I'll drive it like its is until these tires wear out and revisit this thread (in a year or two?) to determine how...

    Has anybody tried wider tires?

I really like my i3 (Giga trim w/20" wheels), but cornering and uneven road surfaces feel a little squirrelly. The tires are 175/55 R20. Seems like 195's would give the car more stability. I'm guessing that might cost some mi/kwh for the extra friction, but maybe be a little safer on wet...

Tesla is burning money, BMW is making money

Yes, of course we have paid some amount per car up front to pay for supercharging. The cars are expensive. At least it is getting done. I have only used one when I needed it and it is very cool to get 150 miles in 20 minutes. I looked on the Charge Now map for any DC Fast Charge sites near San...

    Charge rate

I agree, but it's helpful to know what the charge rate (in amps) in case something is wrong or has changed. (Am I getting the rate I expect?). Luckily you can have the app notify your phone if charging is interrupted which is the worst case scenario.

    Charging with 240 VAC

I would get a Nema 14-50 receptacle ($30 at Home Depot) to replace your dryer outlet (unless you need it for that) and get an EVSE with a Nema 14-50 plug. It goes up to 40amps and works at a thousand RV parks around the U.S. They are everywhere. Put that EVSE in your trunk and you have a...

Tesla is burning money, BMW is making money

Tesla is building out its supercharging network (125kwh per stall) throughout the world, which is free to owners for the life of the car. They have 500 so far and expect to add a couple hundred per year. That is a huge investment in the future. BMW has associated with Chargepoint to make it...

    Charge rate

I have an EVSE that shows peak and operating voltage and current. I have the unit set to supply up to 42 amps at 240 volts. When I have L2 charge settings on the i3 at Maximum it draws 29.9 amps at 233volts (7kwh). When I choose Reduced in Settings it draws 19.5amps (4.6kwh). It's...

    240v charging question.

If you are handy, the most economical one out there (and it is portable) is the Juicebox: http://www.emotorwerks.com/products/online-store/product/show/44-emw-juicebox-level-2-15kw-ev-charging-station-kit-or-assembled-unit It even goes up to 60amps, and can be had for only around $350.

    Which EVSE?

Two points, 1) going with a portable one with Nema 14-50 plug on the input can be used many places. Besides campgrounds where it is the standard, some restaurants, bed and breakfasts and hotels are installing the Nema 14-50 receptacle because it is a very cheap way to offer EV charging...
