    DC Fast charging issue

I've heard folks complain that the very thick cables at 150+ Kwh chargers such as Electrify America cause the plug to not quite connect correctly when the charger is trying to talk to the car. Holding the cable to take some of the weight for a few seconds may be required for it to start...

    Smog Check in California?

I believe CA smog checks are based on the age of the car rather than a change of ownership. I think my 2015 REX is up for it's 1st CA Smog check in 2022. If you're buying a 2014 then it may be due in 2021. The last time I sold a car in CA it was up to the seller to get a car smogged and...

Thanks Art, I'm in California and I'd guess we're connecting to the same servers so they maybe something phone related.

Anyone else having issues with BMW connect App not working?

When I try to start the BMW connect app on my android phone it fails with "Something went wrong, please try later". I've cleared the cache, deleted and re-installed the app but it still fails. Wondering if others are seeing the same issue.

Has anyone tried the 'electrified' app'?

I have the app and it is pretty much what you see in the video. Maybe useful for checking status once in a while.

I made my own dryer outlet to NEMA 6-20R connector

The 3 pin dryer plug 10-30P has no ground, just a neutral and they are no longer used in new houses as there is a 'small' risk of shock. Code is now 4 pin dryer sockets (Nema 14-30P). However most US houses (including mine), still use the 3 pin 10-30 sockets, which is what I created my cable for.

I made my own dryer outlet to NEMA 6-20R connector

Yes, very similar but at half the cost and mine is longer. Yes on the wiring, ground to neutral on the 10-30P. I added a link to a photo.

I made my own dryer outlet to NEMA 6-20R connector

Thought I'd post the following in case others are interested. At home (California, US) I wired up a NEMA 6-20 outlet and use a 16 Amp Dostar for charging at home. However when we travel to family and charge at 110v we commonly needed the REX to fire up to get home. My brother in law is kind...

1st long trip in our 2015 i3 REX : Bay Area to Tahoe

We've owned a 2015 i3 REX for ~2 years and mostly driven to work/shops and to family who are <50 miles away. This week we headed to Tahoe from Los Gatos CA, which is ~ 230 Miles and a 6000' climb away, our 1st long trip. After a bit of planning with plugshare and 'Drive the Arc' on where to...

Check Your Electric Car For Rodents!

I just watched this on Transport Evolved's youtube channel and wonder if anyone has seen mice or rats in/on your i3 and if so where to look for them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uChfezFhL2w&t=325s

Pondering the notion of using an i3 as the basis of a home hydroelectric power setup. Why is this a bad idea...?

Power via water wheels is a great, 100+ year old idea (birth of the industrial revolution). :-) However, not sure if connecting your i3 is the best way to harness the the energy

Uneventful 110 mile drive today on 90% charge...

Thanks for sharing. Reminds me of when my wife asks, how was your flight? "uneventful"is far better than "I thought we were going to crash" :-)

@jfran2, thanks for evangelizing, that did indeed fix the issue for me. I found a nice photo of the fuse location here. https://preview.redd.it/w3cdhn09w8a41.jpg?width=960&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=e8610a1c73e8a0b5418919abfd31aca681e829c0

[Solved] Can not send messages to my i3

I logged a support ticket with ConnectDrive as their website shows I have service until 2025, they responded but seem completely clueless on the issue. I certainly do not intend to pay for these 'services' when they finally expire.

[Solved] Can not send messages to my i3

Hi I used to be able to send messages (map destinations) via the android connectedDrive app (and bimmer_connected on my PC), but it has not worked correctly for a few weeks. I can check charging and location so the car had connectivity and the ConnectedDrive web page show I have remote...

Any good independent mechanics that work on i3s in the Bay Area?

My i3 had it's last service under warranty and I would love to find an independent mechanic that know i3s. Anyone in the Bay Area have a recommendation? ideally around Campbell/Los Gatos.

Serious problem with new BMW ConnectedDrive Website (USA)

+1 for bimmercode Very fast way to check how charged the car is and provides lots of other useful info. I'm also looking at the code to see if it is simple enough for me to contribute and enhance it. I also echo others feelings here. While I bought my i3 used (car is great so far), BMW have...
